New England Newspapers Inchas a Grace policyThe newspaper delivery will continue after the subscriber's expiration date for a period of timeOn all invoices it states "Delivery will continue unless you otherwise advise." We use this policy because we've found that people get behind on their
accountsA majority of subscribers are elderly or their income is in the form of government aidHaving a strict delivery policy affected accounts and stopped service far too oftenThat is why this policy was introduced and has been very effective for many yearsMs*** herself has fallen into grace on several occasions. Ms*** has been an on and off customer for a long timeHer account has been issued over invoices in the past few yearsI've attached a few examples of our invoices that have the following message "Delivery will continue unless you otherwise advise." On 04/10/her account suspended for non-payment and she did not renew until 06/14/and we cleared a balance she had accumulated of $for newspapers delivered after her expiration dateAt that point, in June she was given one month free during a promotion and if she didn't want the newspaper after the free period she was informed she must call in to speak with someone or it would continue and she would have a balance due on her accountAn invoice was sent in July that Ms*** did payWhich brought her subscription due date out to 09/28/She was then send more invoices in August, September and October that she did not pay for nor did she contact the Customer Service Department to stop her home deliveryShe left a voicemail with the News Department wanting to speak to the reporter about the article mentioned in her claimWe then continued delivery until 11/19/at which point it was stopped for non-paymentShe has been notified several times and acknowledged on her phone call the other day that she knew about the Grace Policy. We want to work with all customers to make sure they receive their paper and enjoy their serviceThis will be our same focus for Mrs***Recently, we have called and left messages with her and are waiting for her to contact us back.*** ** *** ***Chief Consumer Sales/Events Officer, CCSEO New England Newspapers, Inc.** *** *** ***

Better Business...

Bureau:
Thank you for your undated letter, which I received on January 28.In your letter you offered me  “a free 2 week trial to the Brattleboro Reformer delivered to your home”. I am a paid home delivery subscriber, and have been for the last 45 years.I have enclosed a photocopy of a January 26 letter I received from the Revdex.com. In it the quote a message from your business in which the letter stated, “We've called this customer and also sent him a letter”.I have received no phone call from anyone in your organization. And there have been no messages from you on my answering machine.Your message in the Revdex.com letter further states, “We offered him a refund….”.I am aware of no such offer. If there was one, would it be for 25 cents for each time I was overcharged for the paper? Unfortunately, I have not kept track of the number of days involved.I am pleased to report that this past Wednesday it cost me only $1.00 to acquire a newspaper from your vending machine at [redacted].Sincerely,[redacted]
