Our customer's vehicle, a 2004 BMW M3 CIC, was towed to our repair shop because it would not start. He made us aware that...

he had recently purchased this vehicle online and that he had never heard the engine run. After spending some diagnostic time with the vehicle our technician informed us that there was an electrical issue that had to do with the antitheft system. We spent some more time working on the vehicle while keeping our customer up to date on our progress.
Unfortunately it's not always easy to be the messenger of the bad news, but we do believe that the previous owner may have known of this issue and sold the vehicle before spending this kind of money for repairs. After a few days of waiting to hear back from our customer after giving him the full diagnosis, our customer shows up with a trailer to pick up his vehicle and asked me for the charges incurred so far. We told him that we were not expecting him and that we weren't done with the car. We totaled up the charges on the invoice and they were approx. $850.00. Our customer felt like he did not owe us anything. We had agreed to remove the immobilizer from the invoice even though it was left installed on his car since we could not return this electrical item to our supplier. The invoice now totaled $600.00 which he paid.
It's unfortunate that our customer did not include all these details in his complaint. He also did not mention that he was kept up to date with the progress of the diagnosis and that no repairs were done without prior customer approval. German Concepts will continue to strive to assist every single valued customers with their vehicle needs.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 12, 2015/10/08) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
they stated they smelled a burning smell when the tech was working on my car, when asked what the burning smell was they said my gauge cluster, they also tried to charge me for a part they installed that wasn't even bad, only admitting to this after I said this will probably end up in court, the gauge cluster is a thousand dollar unit new from bmw,I thought I was being more than fair offering to go somewhere else and calling us even..even knowing I would have to deal with the burnt guage cluster..they still charged me 600.00 to take my car away from their shop, I think they owe me 600.00

As stated previously the vehicle was towed to us and had not run since our customer had purchased it. The reason the vehicle did not run was because of an already bad instrument cluster and a bad transmission SMG unit. We removed the immobilizer part that was not needed and we did not charge the customer for that as per our suggestion. The inst. cluster did fix part of the problem with his vehicle but it did have additional problems as well that were not known until having the cluster replaced. . The customer declined further repairs.
OFFER:
We have already discounted the repairs for the customer and have not charged him for anything that we did not do. The vehicle did not run when he brought it to us and he declined further repairs and picked it up without notice. We feel that we have been more than fair and we did spend quite a bit of time in diagnostics and are not offering any additional refund.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2017/06/02) */
Ms. [redacted] dropped/ towed in her car with no appointment. We told her we would work it in as soon as possible, but we were about two weeks out. We found the vehicle was not running properly due to timing issues. We got the customers approval to...

disassemble the front covers to verify the extent of the damage. We have seen this many times and know there could be more than just a timing chain replacement. We wanted to give the customer the full extent of the job before proceeding. We found the timing chain had jumped timing and also had done damage to the valves. Our estimate range was based off of multiple other jobs we have done with the same issues. We can not give an exact amount until we remove the cylinder heads and see how many valves are bent. What we were quoting was not apples for apples to what she got quoted at other shops. The car needs much more work than just a chain replacement. She called in when the service manager who quoted the job was on lunch break. The other service advisor gave her a range off the top of his head since she wanted to have an idea of expenses. We pride ourselves on providing quality work at a competive price. Unfortunately Ms. [redacted] has chosen to wrongly accuse us when she is not comparing apples to apples. We gave her the option to leave the front covers disassembled to save the other shop the time, but she stated they wanted it all together before starting. The other shop (Midas) called us to ask us the procedure needed on repairing the car. We charged her the time it took to reassemble the vehicle.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2017/06/06) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The car has since been fixed for well under [redacted] price tag. And it was not what was "diagnosed" by German concepts. German concepts charged me over [redacted] to do nothing but take my car apart and put it back together. No Midas did not ask him how to fix the problem. Midas called in and wanted the car back together to ensure all parts will arrive with the vehicle. German concepts we're gonna charge me over [redacted] to do something that cost me less than [redacted] to repair and tow into place. Parts came from Audi and diagnosed by Audi. They are mistaken Midas Towed it.
Audi said it had Nothing to do with the timing chain. Fixed and runs great. So what exactly did I pay [redacted] for? So that they can take my car apart and put it back together because they misdiagnosed it completely.

I have received Ms. Barons response. I believe I need to clear up some of the numbers she has stated. We charged a total of [redacted] (not over [redacted] which covered teardown of the front covers, compression test, and reassembling of the vehicle. In tearing down the vehicle, we were already past the half way point of doing a timing chain replacement. We let Ms. [redacted] know that based off of our experience, additional work would be needed beyond the timing chain. The chain had jumped more than six teeth on the sprocket. After doing over 30 chain jumping repairs in the last couple of years, we know the extent of damage that this can cause. Any chain that has jumped more than three teeth has always bent valves. We gave a range of [redacted] to [redacted] (not [redacted] depending on how much valve damage there was. This was just to advise her that there could be (and more than likely will be) additional damage. We asked the customer to come in to show the damage we had found, but she declined. She said that she just wanted her car put back together and she was taking it somewhere else. As stated before, we offered leaving it disassembled to save the other shop and her the labor time to complete the chain portion of the job. When she was told that there would be some time to put it back together, she said she wanted to talk to the owner by the end of the day, or she would report us to the Revdex.com. After getting back to the office later that day, I called her. She did not really want to have a two way conversation, did not let me hardly talk, and hung up. After she had us run different forms of payment multiple times, we finally were paid the [redacted] and released the vehicle.
It is unfortunate that Ms. [redacted] has chosen to not be forthright and has taken matters in this direction. I have reviewed the labor times of what we have charged and I am confident that we were VERY fair with Ms. [redacted]. I am requesting that Ms. [redacted] submit her invoices from Audi's diagnosis, parts bill from Audi, and whatever certified shop fixed it, along with our verification of being fixed. If we were wrong about the additional damage, then I will gladly return the additional 1.5 hours labor charge to reassemble the vehicle as she has requested. We have worked hard over the last 17 years of being in business to provide honest and high quality work, at a competitive price.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 15, 2017/06/20) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The owner is lying. In fact during our call he did not stop talking to let me speak. His manager told me [redacted] aqnd later did [redacted] Not one time did anyone cal to have me look at the damage.
This man and his company are liars. And charged 2 prices to take apart and put my car back together. And his remark about the multiple cards was unnecessary and hateful. I don't want anything from this company as they wouldn't know the truthr the truth if it hit him. This company is a rip off. I'm sorry I ever tried to work with them. The complaint is enough
