Braun's Auto Sales Reviews (1)

Review: I bought a used 2001 [redacted] for my son from Braun's Auto Sales on Dec 28, 2013. We test drove it and it seemed to run ok. We saw the tag said 'AS IS' and questioned if there were any problems. The salesman said it was in great shape and he had no concerns. We paid $2800 CASH for this car and left. Two days after driving it, the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT came on. We went back to the salesman and asked him to look at it. He said it was a gas reading and it probably needs a new gas cap. He turned the light off and we put a new gas cap on it. A few days later, it would not start in the morning. A few days later, it started bucking and running rough. And on January 30, 2014 (33 days of owning it), the car started smoking and died on my son's way to work. We had it towed to a garage where we were told the ENGINE WAS SHOT. It will cost close to $5000 to replace it. I called the salesman to let him know this and he reminded me that I bought it 'AS IS'. He was very rude and I got nowhere with him.We cannot afford the repairs and we cannot afford another car. We have lost $2800, we have no car and my son will more than likely lose his job because he has no way to get there now.Desired Settlement: We bought this car on good faith from a local car lot in our neighborhood. Although I was foolish for not asking for a warranty, I believed the salesman when he said the car was in good shape and he had no concerns. The salesman is rude and belligerent and I feel sold me a car that he knew had problems. I want to take this car back to him and get my money back.I am considering legal action against this horrible salesman and his dishonest sales practice.

Response:

In response to ID [redacted]

On December 28,2013 Brauns Auto Sales sold a 2001 [redacted] to a customer. This vehicle was sold as-ls.

The buyers were offered to buy a warranty but stated the didn't have the money. At the time they road tested the vehicle and were satisfied with its performance.

A few days later the customer stoped by and said the check engine light came on and accused me of putting it out before we sold it to her. I explained to her that this is not our practice and offered to show her vehicles on my lot that had check engine lights on. I still offered to check the code and give her advice although the customer and son had not purchased a warranty and it would not have covered the light anyway. I check the code which was an evaporation code usually associated with the gas vapors. I asked the young man who was the driver of the vehicle if he had just purchased gas and he said he had purchased gas the night before and the light came on right after.

I explained that it could be a vacuum leak or the gas cap defective or just not tightened property. I advised him the cheapest thing to do was purchase a new gas cap and to tighten it to it clicked. I put the light out at this time.

A month later the customer called and said they were driving the car and it was blowing smoke all over and would not run anymore and had to have it towed and was told the engine was shot and wanted her money back. I told her she bought it as-is and refused the warranty because of money. It was just $99 dollars which is my costl told her to call me with what really happened to the vehicle that made the engine go bad. Engines don't just go bad. Maybe a belt came off or a hose blew and the vehicle was continually driven. The customer continued to tell me in a nasty way that she was going to call the Revdex.com and get a lawyer and sue me for the vehicle.

I was going to help them to use my sources to get a used motor and have my mechanic install it as I do business with him and he helps me would give them my price to install.

Someone that wants to put a $5000 dollar engine in a 2800 hundred vehicle isn't looking out for his customer.

After being threaten with the Revdex.com and a law suit I am reluctant to do anything for these customers.

I feel that having starting problems in a few days and it started bucking and running rough that was the time to check what the problem was and contact me. Not to continue driving the vehicle for 2 weeks that wasn't running properly until it blows up.

sincerely yours
