Break to the Border

Review: On May [redacted] my boyfriend and I requested Break to the Border Car Service for a 6:30am pickup on [redacted] to [redacted] in Manhattan. We were quoted $55 for the ride. There was no mention of any other charges. The driver was 11 minutes late and when we had been driving for 20 minutes he confirmed the address he said "[redacted]?" I said "[redacted] in Manhattan Financial District no S on Water St." He continued drive on and constantly looking at the GPS. The driver was driving urgently and often reckless. For a car service I expect a driver to know were he is going. He went down the wrong street when we arrived downtown, and said, "I don't know if this is the right street, oh wait, its here".

On route to the destination I let the driver know I was paying credit card, he then instructed me to call the dispatch office. I gave my credit card information. When I arrived at the destination, I then was hit with a $79.02 bill. I said what is this? I was quoted $55 when we called? The driver told me to call the dispatch office once again. I was then told the charge was $55.00 plus $5.00 for a one way toll (we did not go through any tolls!) plus $11.00 gratuity plus $5.02 sales tax plus a $3.00 credit card processing fee = $79.02. I was heading to a meeting and couldn't dispute it further at the time.

I was then pressured and harassed with a call from the Break to the Border office later that afternoon. I could not speak to her as I was going through airport security at the time, and I then received 10 harassing text messages from them about the charges. They were verbally abusive to my boyfriend when he politely called the office to understand why they quoted $55.00 to him and the charge was nearly $80.00.

On their website it states:

"Our convenient Yonkers location makes us close to Manhattan and all major metro airports for faster immediate service. Our drivers are courteous, dependable and knowledgeable of the tri-state area. We are fully licensed and insured, and dedicated to customer satisfaction. "

They were certainly not dependable considering they were late, the driver was not knowledgable of the area I was travelling to in New York City and they most certainly are not dedicated to customer satisfaction when they continued to dispute over the phone with my boyfriend.Desired Settlement: I would request the business refund the $24.02 in hidden charges that were not communicated when we initially called for the service. If they stand by their "dedicated customer satisfaction" clause, I expect they stand by that. Its a matter of principal.
