Breakaway Tours Reviews (%countItem)

My daughter paid over $700 for a trip to Quebec City that Breakaway tours cancelled the night before they were to leave. They are holding back $250 PER CHILD in an administration fee stating expenses for Staff and deposits. We checked with the vendors (bus company, hotel) and found out that they were given full credits for the money they had paid so now Breakaway has made over $75,000 in Admin fees from high school students and they also have full credits from the vendors. Dealing with the company to obtain refunds has now been 7 weeks in with still no refund. Not a reputable company and taking advantage of high school students. ***. I'll never use them again.

. You have handled the senior trips for this year horribly. There is a world wide pandemic, and you are refusing to return the money in full !!! To the families. to say we will give you a voucher for a trip they may never get to use in the near future I think its awful. They got anything for their money. These kids can't even have a graduation. You should re think what your doing, This will affect you in the long run.

. This was my sons first trip out of Canada and I thought by booking a tour group it would help him learn how to travel safely, and give him assistance in advocating if something went wrong. Well let me tell you it went wrong, first his room safe was robbed, someone physically made another guest key (had to be hotel staff) and entered his room (and 6 others rooms) during the day when her was on the boat trip. The kids in his room (all 3 boys) were not offered to call home or offered any money to compensate while they were in Cuba. They were seriously left broke 2 days into their trip. 2nd he sustained 3rd degree burns from the sun blistering scabbing infected burns! He was not offered or told or suggested to see a doctor. 3rd he sustained "road rash" on his head from being immature and once again was not offered nor told to see a doctor. Keeping in mind he HAD to purchase medical trip insurance in spite on having 2 different medical travel insurance though my husband and myself, yes you read that right the kid had 3 medical travel insurances. When asked I was told he was asked to put sunscreen on and the lady who looked at his "road" burn is training to be a nurse and cleaned him up and said he was fine. Both wounds were infected when he got home and needed prescription antibiotics. When asked about why it was not suggested he see a doctor they implied it was his word against theirs and no there was no paper trail stating he refused medical help. Communication with this company is difficult at best

My daughter in Grede 11 went on a trip organized by this organzation in which they stayed in a hotel. The options that was given to the high school travellers were to pay 20 non refundable deposit or a 60 refundable deposit all to be paid in cash. I was informed by a customer service rep that all rooming students has to choose the same option and that they were not allowed to make that option as an individual. I feel like that options given to these kids are a cash grab as in most cases when you stay in a hotel a deposit is left and a refund is issued to the occupant upon checking out which was not done in this instance. The trip had a approximate total of 90 from one school (many schools attended that week) which is a lot of money for damages (if any occurred).

I then proceed to ask the representative about how are those funds accounted for and do we get a report of any damages that was reported and then adequately report to parents, there was no answer that could have been given.

***. This has been happening for years and there seems to be no accountability happening for these type of instances.

I believe that each child should be able to make a decision that works best for their household and should not be held captive to other individuals decisions that I have no control over. Also the rules should be the same as most hotels in which a *** card can be used and the hold be released upon check out. I believe that this organization is not compliant and is using little situations to make extra cash on the side which is not accounted for.

Desired Outcome

I'm seeking a refund of my 20.00 in addition to a detail explanation of depsoit money and its allocation.

Hello there,

A room damage deposit or payment is collected from all passengers while on the trip prior to check in at the hotel. All passengers are required to purchase either a non-refundable room damage protection plan for $20 USD or provide a refundable room damage deposit for $60 USD.

This is in lieu of having a peronsal credit card to hold on the room as our travellers are all under the age of 18 and do not yet have a crdit card to use.

All of the travelers in the room have to agree on paying for the same plan.

Upon check-in, the travellers will receive a Room Damage Report form and will be asked to review their room for any pre-existing damages. They will report any damages on this form, and return it to our Breakaway Leaders immediately. This form is to help prevent our travellers from being charged for any damages that they did not cause.

If the travellers do not sign and return this form, they will be held responsible for the state of the room when they check out regardless of it there was previous damages in the room.

-

Damage Protection Plan - $20 USD per person.

The damage protection plan is non-refundable, and it covers accidental damages that occur in your room throughout your trip. Please let our staff know right away if there are any damages in your room.

If you have damages over this amount that are deemed intentional or malicious by the hotel, you will be responsible for paying for the damages as the $20 will not cover it.

Damage Deposit - $60 USD per person.

This is a deposit for incidentals that is required by the hotel. If a damage occurs in your room, accidental or not, your room is responsible for paying the full price to replace or repair the item. So for example - if you break a lamp, the hotel could charge you their full cost to repair or to replace the lamp. That could mean the hotel could bill you anywhere from $100-$160, or more!
If there are no damages or incidentals in your room, you will receive your deposit back upon check-out after your room has been inspected by the hotel staff.

We make all travellers aware of this policy upon signing up for the trip. It is printed in the terms and conditions of our service and must be agreed to in order to complete the initial reservation.

We are sorry to hear that you strongly disagree with this policy. If you would like to discuss further please ocntact us directly to discuss at 1.800.465.4257.

Thank you.

Entered into a contract, and took payment from my minor child, for a spring break trip without A parent the process.

They are overpriced and pray on children

My daughters was going to a school trip. I make #300 dollars deposits but my childrens cannot go on the strip due to family emergency. I called to request a refund. They refused to issue a refund.
You cannot let childrens between 16 and 18 years of age book trip wihout parents consent.

Desired Outcome

Waiting to get my money back $300.00 dollars
