I filled out a $70 application fee for a home that I in turn placed a $650 deposit on. The deposit was readily accepted along with the application feeI filled out an application for a home on 20 May 2014 and place a $650 deposit on a home the next day. I was told the home would be ready by 20 June for my family to move into it. I called the office 3 weeks later to ask what the status of the house was and if it was ready for moving in on the 20th of June. I was then informed that nothing was done and that the owner only uses his own guy to do work on the home. I showed up to the Wilson office on the 13th of June to recoup my deposit and was told that nothing could be done about refunding my application fee or to obtain my deposit. It took 2 calls to the afterhours number before I finally was told that I needed to make an appointment in order to obtain "my money". I feel that due to no fault of my own the company failed to inform me on the status of the home I was supposed to move into and that the application fee should be returned to me. He was told at that time it would be a few more weeks before the owner has completed all the work. He said that would be fine. And we also informed him that the approved application is good for any of our vacant properties if he saw anything else he liked.Our applications state in bold letters on the front, at the top: Application Fee is Non-Refundable. The fee is used to pay the company to process the application. Mr. [redacted] read and signed the application.He asked if he could leave a deposit that would hold the property, so he would be first in line when it's ready. We agreed, and explained to him that the check is placed in our safe not in the bank. We'll hold it there until the house is ready or if wishes the return of the deposit, whichever comes first.The first week of June, we called Mr. [redacted] to update him on the property and offered for him to get his deposit since it's taking longer than expected. Originally June 20th was the deadline, but it looks to be closer to June 25th. He declined and said he would wait. At that time he expressed no concerns or questions. We heard nothing else from Mr. [redacted] until June 13th.On June 13th, Mr. [redacted] arrived at the office for his deposit. Which is fine, if he had called ahead to make sure the person(s) that have access to the safe are present. That particular Friday, the front desk staff person was there, but did not have access to the safe. She then called the office owner, and he provided the code for the front desk person to access the safe. Then Mr. [redacted] was given his deposit and he signed for receipt. As of June 13th, Mr. [redacted] had his deposit and left the office with no complaints.As for the afterhours, that is repair emergency line. They did call the office owner, while he was on the phone with the front desk person providing the safe code.At this time our business with Mr. [redacted] is concluded.Regards,[redacted]
