Brentwood Animal Hospital

We took [redacted], our 14 yr old dachshund, to the Brentwood Animal Hospital yesterday to have a growth removed from his side. We were supposed to pick him up at 5 pm. Upon arriving we were told to call back at 6 pm as [redacted] had not yet recovered from the anesthetic. We called and they wanted to keep him overnight and that we could pick him up in the morning. [redacted] called us this morning to say that [redacted] had passed away. We found out that [redacted] had been restrained on a heating pad overnight with NO SUPERVISION and they found him dead in the morning. It would have been better if they would have sent him home, at least he would have been with his family went he died. WE MISS YOU [redacted]...

I am simply writing this review so that others know not to bring their dog here for boarding. I wish I would have read something similar when looking into bring my dog to Brentwood. When I called to discuss the boarding services at Brentwood they made it sound like our dog would get time outside of the cage and would be safe there. We have never boarded our dog before so I called about 6 places to hear about their services before finally picking Brentwood. The main reason I chose Brentwood was because they stated they would let the dogs out later at night to go to the bathroom. When we dropped our dog off they took him in the lobby and said we were all set. We felt uneasy about not getting to see where he would stay, but felt like they were pushing us to leave. We naively assumed it would be a good place for him. When we went to pick him up the next day the lady told us we had to go outside and around back to pick up our dog. We gave her a strange look, thinking this sounded odd, and headed out back. On our way back there all we heard was loud barking which sounded like it was coming from outside. We got over to pick him up and saw that the dogs were being kept mostly outside in cages. It was freezing cold and most dogs had nothing but the cement ground to sleep on. Luckily, we had brought our own blanket for our dog. As the girl let our dog out of the cage he ran to me and when I picked him up he was clinging to me harder than ever before. He was shaking very badly and in a frenzy. My boyfriend grabbed his belongings from the girl and the blanket was soaking wet and reaked of urine. I took him right outside to go to the bathroom and he peed brighter yellow than ever, which made us assume he hadn't been drinking water. We got into the car and turned the heat up high since he was freezing cold and shivering like crazy. He had white stuff all over his coat (we had just given him a bath the day before) and was shedding from being so scared/nervous. He is usually a very happy hyper dog and had the saddest face I have ever seen. It broke my heart. He was extremely tired and was closing his eyes with his head up because he couldn't keep them open. When we got home he ran straight for the water dish and drank 2 whole bowls of water. We gave him a bath and after that he laid down and slept for 24 hours (other than occassionally getting up for food/water/to go outside). He is a very hyper dog who loves to be around people and was so sad the rest of the day. I am absolutely furious with Brentwood that they could care for these dogs so terribly. I am furious with myself for not seeing where he would stay beforehand and not looking further into Brentwood as a whole. I will never, ever be boarding my dog again. This was the worst, most heartbreaking experience and I cannot believe that this vet could treat animals so horrible. I don't see how they are even open as a business, while doing this to these poor dogs. I hope people read this and do NOT take their dogs to Brentwood for boarding. This is not right and they should not be allowed to board dogs any longer.
