Brentwood Country Club

Review: My spouse [redacted] and I scheduled a wedding reception at the Brentwood Country Club for the date of 4/**/12 after it was recommended that a mutual friend worked there. We met with the employee [redacted] and he was very kind and assisted us in booking our wedding date. After we paid our deposit of $500 and 2 payments of $1500 we received a phone call from the [redacted] (or person claiming to be the [redacted]) stating that our contract had been increased by $1300, when we asked why and to speak to [redacted] (the original employee organizing our contract) we were told that [redacted] no longer worked there and were given no reason why there was an increase on our account. Confused and disgruntled we attempted to contact [redacted] via our mutual friend (neighbor) and he advised us that the company was filing for bankruptcy and that we would loose our money as well as spilling some dirt on the establishment and how it is run. We then contacted the Brentwood Country Club and requested a cancellation and refund (11 months before the booked wedding date of 4/**/12). The person we spoke with was very helpful and assured us that we would get our refund in a few weeks. A month went by and we had received no refund, we contacted the country club and were told that we would only be refunded after the date had been booked (different information than was given when we originally cancelled). It was also made abundantly clear that they knew we had been tipped off by their disgruntled ex-employee, [redacted], and we were told "you should have never listened to that liar". A few days after I had this phone conversation my spouse [redacted] and her mother went to the Country Club in person to attempt to reason with them, or gain an explanation of their behavior. Instead they were spoken to very rudely by the [redacted] and told there would be no refund at all. Since this incident I made several phone calls to the business and left messages to have the [redacted] call me back only to be ignored and eventually they starting hanging up on me. I then started sending emails demanding explanations and I had 1 and only 1 response that the [redacted] would contact me and stated the [redacted] was a female which was quite interesting since the person we had met with and claimed to be the [redacted] was a male. Needless to say I was never contacted by anyone (male or female) from the business ever again. Now I have paid $3500 to a business that has supplied absolutely no service to me.Desired Settlement: I had originally attempted a refund for the $3000 and told them to keep the deposit but after the stress and emotional discomfort as well as rudeness and lack of professionalism I request a refund of the full amount of $3,500.
