Brian P. Pickett's Johnson Funeral Home

I came up to Chicago from TN for my cousins funeral. The funeral home is Fountain Jordan Sheperd at 418 S. Cicero Avenue. However, this Brian Johnson Funeral Services is who was conducting out of this funeral home. My cousins eldest son is who was in charge of decisions concerning her arrangements. Her son signed paperwork for them to release her body to them and that was the last time he had any dealings with them. My cousins boyfriends mother was contacted for every decision thereafter. The boyfriends mother was a friend of the funeral business owners and because of that connection, she was the one they consulted with over decisions, not my cousins son. He was never given an itemized invoice about the services. Her son had to pick up the printed obituaries himself from the printing company. My cousins body was held there for 2 weeks before services were conducted. The day of the funeral her body wreaked of embalming fluid which leads me to think that they didn't embalm her body until the day before. The family was told that we could not view her until after 5:00pm the night before the funeral. The funeral home did not do proper makeup or hairstyling. They wanted $75 more dollars to do it. The marquee inside the funeral home never had her name listed. There was no police escort to the grave site. The day before the funeral, the boyfriends mother contacted my cousins eldest son and said that the funeral home wanted $750 more dollars for a bigger casket to be paid on the day of funeral or they would not perform services. The funeral service was only 1 hour and the staff closed the casket without letting the family do a final walk by her to say goodbye. Her son confronted the staff that was closing the casket and they told him that for another 15 minutes of viewing that they would charge him $175. I have never witnessed a funeral as emotionally distressing and unorthodox as this one. We as a family are very upset over this entire mess. Do not use this business to lay your loved one as a final resting place before burial.
