Review: There was an accident in apartment [redacted], **, of which our insurance covered, we had to move directly into apartment [redacted], ** as a result of having to get our stuff out of apartment [redacted] for repairs. Apartment [redacted] was just vacated from a couple of gentlemen as they had to move. The landlord at the time told us that we could move directly in without cleaning. We had been in a hotel for 3 days and just wanted to be in a new place and get the ball rolling, so we moved in without having the apartment cleaned by BriarCliff Apartments contractors. You can even check the books of BriarCliff as there were no cleaning/painting to take place before we moved in during November 2012. There were scuffs on the wall and of course, your normal wear and tear. The weekend that we moved out in Aug 2013, we cleaned the apartment [redacted] to leave it better than we had found it. My mother vacuumed, also my grandparents were there and saw the apartment [redacted] before we left and its condition. My husband thoroughly cleaned the kitchen, bathrooms, three bedrooms, and living room to a better condition than when we found it. When we moved out, we left everything as we found it as well as had the power promptly turned off as well as the water. The refrigerator was left in better condition than when we found it. As far as the outside of the building into [redacted], the building is FILTHY!!! That was there before we got there and was an eyesore, the whole time we were there! I cannot believe that someone would let the outside of their property building get like that!After an initial inquire about the security deposit, this is the response from [redacted] that the landlord at the time told us about via email on 8/25/2013:On Sun, Aug 25, 2013 at 10:48 PM:Sorry for the delay - I wanted to speak with the owner first. He said that you are not eligible for a refund on the deposit because of all of the damages in [redacted]. This was from the first inquiry, now during our second inquiry, he has changed his story to say that we left [redacted] a mess, which is not the case; we thoroughly cleaned the apartment and have 3 witnesses to its condition before we placed the keys in the mailbox.On September 6, the landlord at the time emailed the below email to [redacted] in regards to our security deposit. In this email, she even states that we paid the deductible for [redacted] and she moved us into [redacted] so that [redacted] could be repaired. She does state herself in this email that we left [redacted] as we found it (we moved them in quickly so there was no time to paint that unit, the walls had normal wear but primarily from the long term tenant that had been there before them). I will not lie; apartment [redacted] was a mess when we moved in with burnt stuff in the oven and in the stove burners, broken door knobs, coach roaches, etc.Desired Settlement: Refund of Security Deposit ($790)

We have no personal knowledge or involvement in regard to the security deposit, lease, or any agreement between [redacted], the prior property manager, and the owners.
