I was threatened to be placed in collections on my employers phone without any verification as to who I was other than my name on a number that was not listed as a contact numberViolating every HIPAA lawRegardless of if I paid the balanceBut, when I called in to pay the balance my identity was verifiedTell me how my personal health information is protected in the original phone call? I reviewed the complaint and the notes on the account and the nature of the complaintFrom what I can put together, statements were being returned as address unknown for this patientWhen mail comes back, one of my staff exhausts all resources to locate a number to contact the patient to update
their recordsOur records indicate several unanswered attempts to reach the patient on the phone number she listedWhen the calls went unanswered, the patient had her employer listed on the demographic page, along with the employers numberThe call made to this patient resulted in our updating her address, and patient paying the amount due on the account
