I am in
receipt of the engine for the above mentioned warranty claimBelow are the
findings
The engine has been received assembled
Outside has very little dirt and the residual oil is
gray in color
Piston and head carbon is very light; this was
possibly used the hours as listed
Connecting rod crankpin bearing is scored, broken
and discolored gray
Crankshaft crankpin has metal transfer
PTO bearing and crankshaft journal are lightly
scored
Bore is scored, lightly galled and has a ring
chatter wear pattern on the magneto sideThis chatter damage is
consistent with insufficient lubrication
Piston skirt has above wear
Failure Cause: Insufficient lubrication.
This failure
is not due to a defect in material and/or workmanship; please advise your
customer we cannot consider this a warranty matterAll parts will be returned
to youThe freight will be paid and all other charges rejected as they are the
consumers responsibility

"The customer was contacted and the warranty coverage explained, this was a fuel related issue and not a manufacturing defect so therepair was not covered under warranty. However, Briggs & Stratton reimbursed the cost of the repair as a one time good will concession."Regards,*** ***

Dear Sirs,
 
thank you for processing this. Meanwhile, Walmart has responded and informed me that they  - in place of Briggs & Stratton - have initiated a full refund for my repair bill. Hence, as far as my desired outcome (refund from Briggs & Stratton) is concerned, this has been taken care of.
