On September 27th, 2015, I was working as the cashierA girl walked in and was in the process of buying a drink, when a gentleman ran inside and stated, "hey I just hung up the nozzle for a car parked on pump 6, there was gas spilling out of
the car." The owner of the car, which happened to be the girl, said yeah that is my carI explained to her that when you "purchase gas" it is important that you stand next to your car, even if the automatic shut off switch has been activatedNever once did I state that this happens once every one hundred timesShe did not say a word and walked outI went outside while she was getting into her car and started cleaning the small area of gas with approximately a cup of kitty litterI did not know *** was getting gas or I would have advised to please stay next to her car until she was finished fuelingThe oil companies have made the process of getting gas easy for the customer and California has pushed legislation to make gas stations more environmental friendlyBut, gas is still a dangerous substance that needs to be monitored, especially by the customers when they are fuelingThere are a number of reasons why this may have happenedFirst of all, the car could have been hit or have a damaged tank that does not allow the fuel pump to work correctlySecond, the nozzle might not have been placed properly over the fuel valve, causing the fuel to spill outside of the vehicleThird, I will review the footage from that day to make sure someone else did not tamper with ***'s car while she was fuelingLastly, the pump was tested and monitored after *** leftThe automatic shut off valve worked properlyI have attached documentation of receiptsThe nozzle, pump, and shut off switch all worked properly all dayOn September 28th I replaced the nozzle for precautionary reasonsBefore and after the incident we did not have and issue with the pump
