BrightHome Energy Solutions Reviews (3)

Review: I paid this vendor to conduct an energy audit of my 1890 home and to address several known draft and comfort problems, particularly conditions in my kitchen that result in the space being unusable during the coldest winter months. The company performed the work but during the first winter it became clear that the work that they performed was inadequate to solve the problems. The company subsequently sent out a different inspector who acknowledged that the work that was performed was substandard and cut corners. They agreed to come back to the home to rectify the conditions but have failed to satisfactorily address the conditions that they agreed needed to be addressed. I have been attempting to get this firm to return to my home for almost a year to minimally address their poor work.Desired Settlement: This company should return the money I spent on this work or perform the work again to address the unsatisfactory conditions.

Business

Response:

1. The business entity, Bright home NJ, that did the work for Mr. [redacted] is not this business. It was another entity that was separate from BH of NY. . See attached copy of contract. This business was a joint venture with a owner that is no longer involved in the business. The NJ entity is not operating.

2. However, I have responded to this customer several times in the last two years attempting to correct the home at a cost to the NY company that had no ownership in the NJ company.

3. I am again working on his home this week at a cost to the NY business.

Bright Home did an energy audit of our home and recommended insulating and air sealing. We had other quotes for insulation only from other companies, but only Bright Home recommended air sealing. From our own research we believed that to be a sound suggestion, so we went with them. The job was much more expensive than insulation only, but in the two years since then we are literally down 60 percent on our heating bills. Our heat costs are $1200 a year less than they were before we did this project. During the project the Bright Home team was professional, neat, always cleaned up after themselves, and always polite. It's an intrusive job, and they needed access to closets and eaves and all kinds of nooks we had to clear out for them. But they worked with us so we could move our stuff in an orderly way, and it was (relatively) painless. I would definitely recommend them.

Review: Starting on 12/**/2013 the digital thermostat was displaying an error message, “Check Furnace”, call for service. The system was cycling but, the burner was not lighting up. I called the company, “[redacted] Energy Solutions” in Elmsford, NY, that sold us the “[redacted]” (AMVC8) HVAC unit and told them what the scrolling display said. They told me that they NO LONGER service the $8000.00 equipment sold us. They referred us to their out source service people, “[redacted] Oil” in Elmsford, NY. I finally got in touch with someone who told me that it would cost $139.00 for the call and $145.00 plus tax, for the technician to diagnose what the problem is. We had no choice but to let someone check the furnace, the outside temperature was below freezing. I wrote [redacted] a check for $307.78 and handed it to the tech. A couple of days later I got an invoice from for $304.94. Then they sent us a notice that if we wanted the “low fire pressure switch”, they would need $96.00 for the part and $145.00 labor per tech, plus tax. Then we received another notice from [redacted], the part, if accepted under warranty by [redacted], will cost $24.10, plus a $50 warranty processing fee, $145.00 labor per hour, plus tax, and shipping to and from [redacted]. The new unit has been registered under warranty at the “[redacted]” website the day it was installed, 8/**/2011. Numerous phone calls were made to [redacted]. The owner and other people who answered the phone at different times said they would get back to us when told our problem, but they never did and we had to constantly call them back every couple of days. The warranty states that “the original registered owner, the Heat Exchanger and Recuperative Coil are warranteed for the owner’s Lifetime or for so long as the owner owns the home in which the unit was originally installed (whichever ends first), all remaining parts are warranteed for a period of 10 Years”. After going back and forth between “[redacted]” and “[redacted]” for the past 20 days, it’s going to cost us about $600.00. We trusted these professionals to act accordingly. Why isn’t [redacted], [redacted], and [redacted] honoring the warranty? [redacted]Desired Settlement: Honor the warrant without any further cost
