Review: I thought going to collage to get a career for me and my children would be the best thing I ever done in my life. I was wrong this college has ruined my life so far. I am enrolled in the dental program, I worked my butt off going to school getting good grades and attendance. It was finally time for my Extern and I was sent to a clinic that the school affiliates with. I told them from day one that the supervisor there be littles me and makes me uncomfortable. We have 260 to complete and I had 40 hours to complete and I would've been done and starting my new career. This lady made up a false statement about me and I was terminated from site. When I spoke with the president of the school [redacted] he said I would do my 40 hours and that's all I would be done with Extern. Well they waited until 14 days went by therefore I would have to re enroll in school since they dropped me then infromed me that I had to do ALL my hours over and pay for it. They did not nor did they speak with the supervisor that lied on me. This school will feed you hope lie in your face and raise your tuition with out informing you. This whole time the director of dental program walked off the job leaving us with out anyone to turn to. The school is very shady to say the least. I'm paying 17000 for this school an now I have to re do what I already done and pay more money. I asked to appeal the decision and speak with someone that is over [redacted] and they refuse to tell me. I suggest go to a community college save your money and sanity. They should be investigated on fraud and nerous other charges.Desired Settlement: I would like to complete my 40 hours I originally had. Or appeal the decision of making me do 260 hours over

Response:

Ms. [redacted] is currently enrolled in the College’s Dental Assistant program. She completed the classroom portion of the program and began her externship in April 2014. During her dental externship, which is three months in length, Ms. [redacted] was terminated from her site for violating the site’s conduct policy. As a result of her termination, she received a failing grade for the externship course. Because she failed the externship course, she must to re-take the entire course in order to pass and complete the program. This is consistent with the College’s academic and externship policies. Ms. [redacted] signed an externship acknowledgment form in April 2014 where she confirmed that she understood this requirement. A copy of her acknowledgment is provided as Exhibit 4. After her termination, Ms. [redacted] was offered the opportunity to re-take the externship course, but she felt that she should only have to complete a portion of the course, rather than the entire course. However, this requirement is part of the College’s academic policies and cannot be waived. Fortunately, Ms. [redacted] agreed to re-take her externship and was assigned to a new externship site on July 18. 2014. She is on track to graduate in September 2014. Her new enrollment agreement for the externship is provided as Exhibit 5. Because Ms. [redacted] has re-enrolled in her program, the College considers this matter to be closed.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I will not sit up here and accept a response that's full of inaccurate statements. What code did I violate on my extern? I ask on several different occasions to move me to a new location because I wasn't being treated fairly. This school is notorious for their lack of communication and there willingness to avoid the matter at hand. I ask them to do a investigation and they said they did but really they sent a former employee to my extern site and did not speak with the supervisor in which had the issue with me. Kaplan is a profit school and they very well demonstrated to me that they didn't care. Yes I had to re enroll just so I wouldn't owe the school and have no diploma. But I think making complete my hours over and making me pay for it is ridiculous. The Dean at the school should be ashamed of himself he and a instructor sat in my face and LIED. They told me I would only have to complete my 40 hours I had left. So if they were going by "policy" then why did they tell me that in the first place? I believe there need to be a full investigation in the schools policies and if no one else has the guts to do it I will. I am a widowed single mother I went to Kaplan to better myself for my children not to play games with them or anyone else. If I could do it over I would have NEVER signed up for that school and I truly hope no one else will. I even signed my sister up to Kaplan and she is finishing in a few months. But do you think that school even sent a thank you my way. I will keep fighting this that's all I have to say.

Review: May 13 2013 I started kaplan, was suppose to be finished with the entire program in February, here it is July and I'm still not finished , they've taking money from me "accidentally" marked absences into my file , made me repeat classes I passed in order to fulfill the roster , they dismissed me from a mod that I was half way done with before I was told and no explanation behind it. Kaplan left me high and dry from 2 whole months , wouldn't answer the phone for me or anything because the ma the matter went corporate, took another month to find me a site to extern, the site they put me on was not structured at all so I requested to be moved but all of a sudden I was so called dismissed from the site , they found another one that I was more than half way completed with for me to get a call saying "don't go back we will talk Monday" the site had management problems so I was let go at 140 hours , today July 11th I get another call saying they have dismissed me from the program all together. Kaplan has "accidentally" made me pay more than what I was suppose to and than claim to have credited my account , added money to the loans I had to take out constantly made me repeat classes and even fired 4 staff that stood up for me when corporate got pulled in , my situation has not been resolved at all , I've been in school more than a year for them to dismiss me from the program when I did nothing wrong it was all there mistakes and here I am with no diploma and a bunch of loans , I want my money back , loans cleared or for me to be able to finish my hours and get my diploma! I've waisted so much money and time at kaplan it is sad . They are all about money and I need my situation resolvedDesired Settlement: I will join the class lawsuit if I am unable to complete the rest of my hours and get my diploma , I want the money I paid back as well as my loans cleared . Kaplan has robbed me of my money , education and dream occupation

Response:

In her complaint to the Revdex.com, Ms. [redacted] makes a number of claims alleging that the College:

Accidentally marked absences in her attendance records Required her to repeat classes she had passed Dismissed her from a class module with no explanation Dismissed her from multiple externship sites with no explanation Required her to pay more than she owed Wrongfully dismissed her

The College has investigated each of Ms. [redacted]'s claims, and has determined that it acted correctly and fairly with regard to Ms. [redacted]. The College gave Ms. [redacted] every opportunity to complete her program, encouraged her to re-take classes that she failed and provided her with additional externship opportunities after she was dismissed for conduct violations. Despite being dismissed from two externship sites, the College provided her with a third externship site and notified her in writing that if she was dismissed from that site for a conduct violation, she would be dismissed from the program. Ms. [redacted] agreed to these conditions, but failed to comply with the requirements. Consequently, the College informed her that she would not be able to continue the program. Additional details of Ms. [redacted]'s situation is provided below.

Ms. [redacted] enrolled in the College's Medical Assistant program in May 2013 and was scheduled to complete the nine-month program in February 2014. The program is divided into two phases: (1) a seven-month classroom learning phase where students learn the core concepts for success in a medical office, and (2) a two-month clinical externship where students serve as externs at medical offices under the supervision of healthcare professionals. During the classroom portion, Ms. [redacted] failed two of her classes and was required to re-take those classes under the College's repeat course policy, which is provided to students in the school catolog (a copy of which is attached as Exhibit 1). Ms. [redacted] was able to pass the two classes in her second attempt, but these repeats caused delays in her progression in the program. While Ms. [redacted] makes a number of claims that the College incorrectly recorded her attendance, or charged her incorrectly, she provided no details of these claims. the College investigated Ms. [redacted]'s attendance records and student ledger and found no errors with regards to billing or attendance.

Upon completion of the classroom portion of the program, Ms. [redacted] was assigned to an externship site in April 2014. Ms. [redacted] quit her first externship after one day and refused to return to the site. In an effort to accommodate Ms. [redacted], the College worked to identify a second externship site for her, and assigned her to a new site in early May 2014. Ms. [redacted] started at the second site on May 16, and was terminated on May 20, after less than four days. She was terminated for making negative comments about the Doctor who ran the facility and other employees at the site. The College works very hard to ensure that both students and externship sites have a positive externship experience, and spoke with the manager at the site to confirm the reasons for Ms. [redacted]'s dismissal. On May 22, the College's President and Externship Coordinator met with Ms. [redacted] to explain the issues that led to her termination and determine whether she should be given a third opportunity to complete her externship. Notes from that meeting are included as Exhibit 2. Following this meeting, the College agreed to give Ms. [redacted] one final chance to complete her externship, but required her to sign an acknowledgement that this was her final opportunity, and that failure to comply with the College's conduct policy at her third externship site would result in dismissal from the program. A copy of the signed acknowledgment that this was her final opportunity, and that failure to comply with the College's conduct policy, is provided as Exhibit 3. Ms. [redacted] signed the acknowledgment on June 2, 2014, and began her new externship on June 9. Unfortunately, Ms. [redacted]'s externship site terminated her on July 9 for repeated lateness, absence, and unprofessional conduct. Pursuant to the agreement that she signed with the College, she was dismissed from the program and will not be allowed to re-enter.

These facts demonstrate that the College has done everything it could to accommodate Ms. [redacted] by giving her multiple chances to complete her program, even though it was not required to do so. Her repeated failure to comply with the College's policies and requirement led to her dismissal from the program. While this is unfortunate, the College has an obligation to treat students fairly and equally under its policies.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I repeated more than two classes and one wasn't an option for me being Dr. [redacted] pulled me from red mod. I NEVER had 3 externship sites at all I had two which was boomers urgent care and [redacted]. I started [redacted] June 16th and ended on the 14th of July. I completed over 160 hours of my site. I attempted to log onto Kaplan quad and everything has been deleted, the only thing on the site is 71 hours. [redacted] had me punching in hours on two different time sheets due to some error she could not figure out, my last week at [redacted] was completed on paper which they NEVER submitted into the system let alone would let me pick the paper up. I was never contacted by Kaplan for any reason at all, the never answer my calls or respond. The only people that actually tried to help me we all fired because the stood on my behave when corporate stepped in, Dr. [redacted], Ms. [redacted] and Ms, [redacted] were all fired due to that. Kaplan college is doing the unthinkable and doing illegal things, there is no reason none of my hours or per say ALL of my hours aren't there. Kaplan has done nothing and is doing nothing but lying, I am going too see them in court about this situation where all companies will have to be there. The fact they are saying I had 3 sites is ridiculous! I never quit any site! I am so overwhelmed with this situation because I have been getting messed over from the beginning. Everyone that was there to vouch has been fired wrongfully and the fact Kaplan is lying makes it worse. If I can't finish my hours I want all the money I paid to Kaplan and loans cleared. Kaplans response to my complaints isn't going to cut it!

Response:

This correspondence responds to your letter regarding Kaplan College - Sacramento, CA (the "College") student [redacted] dated August 29, 2014.In your letter, you indicate that Ms. [redacted] disagrees with two facts provided by Kaplan College in our correspondence. First, she disputes that she was offered three externship sites: and second she disputes the number of externship site hours she completed, claiming that she completed "over 160 hours."As summarized herein, both of these claims are demonstrably false. Ms. [redacted] was offered three externship sites, and she completed 73.54 hours of externship over two of her externship sites.1. Ms. [redacted] was offered three externship sites while at the College. While at the College, Ms. [redacted] was offered three externship sites to complete her 200 hour externship requirement. Ms. [redacted] was given an initial site that she refused, and then received externship placements at two additional sites, both of which was terminated from. The College considers refusal of site placement that meet the student's schedule requirements to be an external site refusal. Details of each externship site placement is provided below.Site #1: Professional Medical Clinic for Women: On April 30, 2014, the College submitted Ms. [redacted]'s resume to this externship site for approval. On May 1, 2014 Ms. [redacted] interviewed for an externship placement at this site. However, on May 12, 2014 Ms. [redacted] informed the College that she was refusing the site due to a new job that conflicted with the site's schedule. As documentation of this site and Ms. [redacted]'s refusal, a screenshot of the instructor's contact manager entry is provided here: (see attached)Since the comment may be hard to read in this format, it is transcribed as follows:(Instructor [redacted]; 5/12/2014): Update on [redacted]: I have a site that would like to start her tomorrow but now she is saying she took an in-home caregiver position and cannot work the schedule the site wants her to now. When I set this up for her she said that she was available for full time, day time extern. She is now saying that she will need to be at her job by 11:30 am and of at either 5:30 or 6:30pm and they will not work with her extern hours. She said she took the job since it was taking so long to get a site even though she did not get me her tb test until 4/30 and I had her interviewing the very next day and site agreed to take her on the 8th of May.Because Ms. [redacted] refused the externship position at the site, the College considers it to be a refusal/removal from the site.Externship SIte #2: [redacted]'s Medical Clinic: Ms. [redacted] began her externship at this site on May 16, 2014 and was terminated July 9. Her signed Externship Site Confirmation Form for this site is provided as Exhibit 2.2. Ms. [redacted] completed 73.54 hours while on her externship sites.Ms. [redacted] alleges that she completed "over 160" hours at her externship sites. This is false. Ms. [redacted] completed timesheets while on externship, and the timesheet information was recorded in the College's student database. A summary is provided as Exhibit 3, which shows that Ms. [redacted] completed 73.54 hours of externship.Ms. [redacted] makes an unsupported claim that time records were deleted from the record system, but the facts do not support this. Ms. [redacted] was on her externship sites for two date ranges: May 16-20 and June 6-July 9. There were only 26 business days during that p[redacted]d, and so Ms. [redacted] would have to work 6.15 hours for all 26 days to complete 160 hours. Given her part-time work schedule and issues with absenteeism, this is extremely unlikely. Even if she did manage to work 160 hours during that time frame, the externship requires 200 hours for successful completion (as noted on the signed Externship SIte Confirmation Forms provided in Exhibits 1 and 2), and so even in this unlikely scenario she would still fall short of the hours needed to complete the externship.ConculsionThese facts clearly demonstrate that the College has done everything it could to accomodate Ms. [redacted] by giving her multiple changes to complete her program. Her repated failure to comply with the College's policies and requirements led to her dismissal from the program. While this is unfortunate, the College has an obligation to treat students fairly and equally under its policies. We therefore request that this matter be closed.I hope our explanation satisfies this inquiry. Please feel free to contact me directly at ###-###-#### or via email at [redacted] should you require additional information.Sincere Regards,[redacted]Interim PresidentKapalan College - Sacramento
