Tell us why here
The customer purchased this vehicle used, at another dealer, previous to August At this time the vehicle was years old and had in excess of 100,miles
The customer first visited Brileya’s Chrysler Jeep on 08/06/at 113,miles for an oil change, check the
exhaust because they thought it was loud and check for an overheating issue at timesOur technician found that the exhaust wasn’t leaking but it did sound a bit louder than and he did find that the right exhaust manifold had a broken stud at the rear of the manifoldThe water pump was found to have a small amount of play but the engine coolant was full, no leaks found and the overheating concern could not be duplicated and the customer was advised of this and this is documented on the customers repair orderThe customer chose to not make any repairs of the concerns documented on the repair order
The customer returned on 09/04/at 116,miles with a concern of the malfunction indicator light being on, overheating at times and losing coolantThe tech performed diagnosis and found that there were traces of exhaust gases in the engine coolant and this is a sign of an internal coolant leakThe customer was advised that the next step would be to remove the engine cylinder heads and inspect to see where the internal leak is and that the vehicle shouldn’t be drivenThe customer declined the repairs at this time and took the vehicle
The customer returned again on 10/15/at 119,miles (the vehicle has now been driven for 6,since the first service visit and 3,miles since Brileya’s told the customer they shouldn’t drive the vehicle) with a concern of smoke coming out of the exhaust, white and black, as well as engine coolant coming out of the exhaustIt was verified that there was an internal engine failure and the engine would need to be removed, disassembled for repair estimate or replaced with a new OE, new aftermarket remanufactured or used engine assemblyThe customer decided to install the new aftermarket remanufactured engine assemblyThe parts were ordered after we received the customer approval, the repairs were completed, the vehicle was test driven, the engine was performing as designed and the malfunction indicator light was offThe customer took the vehicle back on 11/05/
The customer returned on 11/07/at 119,miles with a concern of the malfunction indicator light being on and requested that we check the transmission fluid levelThe tech found a stored code for the EGR valve (this would not be replaced during the engine install above)The tech suspects that the EGR valve may need to be replaced due to either age and miles or possibly it was damaged when the engine failed but at this time of diagnosis the EGR valve was operating as designedThe customer was given a quote to replace the EGR valve but it was not replacedThe transmission fluid was verified to be full
The customer returned on 12/08/at 121,miles for a concern of an engine oil leak and a coolant leakOur tech was able to verify that the front crankshaft seal (which was new with the new engine) was leaking slightly (engine oil level in the safe range) but the tech was unable to verify an engine coolant leak or lossThe front crankshaft seal will be replaced under warrantyThe parts have been ordered and the appointment is scheduled
Brileya’s Chrysler Jeep’s findings are that we provided excellent service at each request, provided estimates and advice on what should be done and advice to not drive the vehicle on 09/04/Due to the customer continuing to drive the vehicle the engine was driven to failure and resulted in the engine having to be replacedThe new aftermarket remanufactured engine assembly while expensive, was the customer decision after all avenues were offered to the customer as in rebuilding the current engine (if able, we weren’t approved to remove and disassemble the engine to see if it could be rebuilt and if so how much), used assembly, aftermarket remanufactured and new OE assemblyThe customer has been handed the warranty for the engine that was installedBrileya’s Chrysler Jeep will not be offering a refund due to our findings that Brileya’s Chrysler Jeep was not at fault for any damage that the engine sustained as a result of the customer continuing to drive the vehicle after they were advised by Brileya’s to not drive it
