Brittany Commons Apartments Reviews (3)

I have received the complaint letter that you sent regarding [redacted] and the dates on the lease with Brittany Commons Apartments. Please be advised that, first of all, during the original application process, the reservation agreement for this apartment, signed by both [redacted] ... and her roommate, [redacted] , states that the start date of the lease would be March 2, 2013 and end April 30, 2014. This is done due to the fact that we DO NOT count partial months--the amount at move in was prorated on the number of days for the month that they moved in. So putting the partial month of March aside, the 13 months began April 1, 2013 and will be ending Aptil 30, 2014. Secondly, the lease that the two individuals signed, in paragraph 8 on page one, clearly states that is was a 13 month, 30 day lease, commencing on March 2, 2013 and ending on April 30, 2014. A copy of the lease was given to the occupants. Therefore, we will not be waiving any rent payments and, per the lease agreement that was signed by both occupants on March 2, 2013, rent will be due in full for the month of April, 2014. Also please be advised, that as of today, February 5, 2014, no Notice to Vacate has been received in our office. Thank you for handling this situation. [redacted]

Review: We signed our 13 month lease on March 2. 2013. After going in to the leasing office to turn in the notice that we will not be renewing our lease, we were told that our lease is not up until April 30, 2014. As we were confused about how a 13 month lease isn't up until almost 14 months, I called and asked them to explain to me about why I'm going to have to pay for a full extra month. They then explained that their leases only end on the 30th of every month (which was not explained or mentioned when the lease was signed) and that since our lease was running 2 days into the month of April we will have to pay for the month and the lease won't end until the 30th. I asked if there was any way we could pro-rate the apartment from March 30 until April 2 and was told No because the lease was signed. They never explained anything about the lease going until April 30th when it was signed, and both my roommate and I were under the impression that 13 months was 13 months and the lease would be ending on April 2.Desired Settlement: I would like to not have to pay for the whole month of April when we have set up to move out before April 2 when we believed that was the end of our lease, especially because it is only 3 days past March the 30th and it was never explained to us about this rule.
