Britton, Tim Construction Services Reviews (1)

Review: I had hired the contractor to do a job in Oct/Nov of 2011. He hired the worst possible people to do my job and he was paid top dollar for a less than top dollar finished product. Now there is an issue with the beam itself that holds up the structure as well as some other smaller issues. I have contacted his office as well as our local building inspector and [redacted]s office said they would get someone there and it has been a week now with no further communication. They seem to have a track record of not handling complaints. I had a 1 year warranty on the job. I just want it fixed or I will hire someone and bill [redacted]s company. Also I have noticed that [redacted]s contractor license has expired.Desired Settlement: I want it fixed correctly (like it should of been done in the 1st place)

Response:

I wanted to advise you we have addressed the issues with [redacted]'s home.

Unfortunately, no one was home when the repairs were made. We have also spoken to

the building inspector ([redacted]) and he is aware that the repairs have

been made. In addition, [redacted] sent us an email yesterday advising us that he knew that we

had been there to resolve the issues.

As part of the requested repairs, we fixed a trim board that had been damaged by abuse

from others after our work was completed. This is a billable item due to the nature of the

repair. We believe someone was deliberate in their damage of the trim board as the

screws holding the board were bent. We will be sending out an invoice for the repairs

that were requested.

Thanks for your assistance in resolving this issue. Please mark this file as resolved.

Should you have any further questions, please let me know.

Response:

I am not satisfied what so ever with Mr [redacted]'s response. First off my complaint is with Mr [redacted] and not Mr [redacted]. To my knowledge Mr [redacted] has no building experience at all. They came on to my property without calling me to tell me they were going to be there. I felt it is my right to be present when someone was there. How do I know they didn't do something else. I will be contacting the police as well on this matter for an unlawful entry or a trespassing charge to be filed against them. I have contacted the building inspector on this to see if he knew that they were on my property. This is not acceptable behavior from any contractor doing business.

Thank you.

Response:

I do not accept their response that the issue has been resolved. I spoke with the building inspector ([redacted]) at 7:05 this morning 8/28/13 and he told me that all [redacted]s office did was to call him and tell him they had fixed the problem. At no time before or while they were there did they ask him to come over to my house to look at it. They never even called me to tell me they were going to be there. I did not hear from them for a week so I then sent an e mail telling them I would take care of the problem since it didn't appear they were going to and bill them and then all of sudden they then decide to send someone over without notifying anyone. It is not fixed. In fact they had told Mr [redacted] that the deck will not fall down. Which in all fairness may not happen HOWEVER it is not done correctly. At the time of the incident when they allegedly fixed the problem [redacted] was not even licensed as a contractor in the state of PA. His license had been expired as of 7/31/13 and had not been renewed until 8/22/13. That in itself is a violation of state law. In order for this issue to be resolved [redacted] must correct the problem with me overseeing the project as well as the local code enforcer. I do believe that the Revdex.com is there to protect the consumer against companies and products that do not meet proper standards. This problem has not been corrected. I really do not want this to go to a civil suit in the court system. Thank you.

We have received your email of 9/10/2013. In the future, could you communicate via mail as the email sometimes has an issue. I have spoken to the building inspector ([redacted]) concerning the "repairs” that were made to the deck of the [redacted] Residence. He has been to the residence and verified the work that was done. The work that was done was in his words " not necessary as a structural code" and that is why it was not a building code issue. Because of this, he did not need to inspect the work. However as a courtesy to us (and [redacted]), he did verify the work was completed. Once again this work was not necessary for code. I believe that [redacted] has spoken to him about the issue. If not, he can call him for a further explanation. As you are aware from my last letter, we did however honor his request, and as a courtesy to Mr. [redacted], make the requested enhancements. In addition, we did not invoice him for these enhancements as they were completed as a courtesy. While we were completing the repairs, at least one tool was left on the property. Could you please ask Mr. [redacted] to return them to our office or make arrangements for them to be returned to us along with any other of our tools that may be in his possession? Thanks for your assistance in resolving this issue. Please mark this file as resolved and verify its resolution. Should you have any further questions, please let me know. Sincerely, [redacted]

I DO NOT accept their response that this issue has been resolved. Now they did fix a trim board that was loose that I had mentioned to them but that was not the main issue I want taken care of. Nor did I even care that it got fixed so I don't know why they did fix it. The main complaint would be the decking joists which are not resting on the deck beam like they should be and in turn that causes an unsafe issue. I spoke with the building inspector ([redacted]) at 7:05 AM on 8/28/13 and he told me that all [redacted]s office did was to call him and tell him they had fixed the problem. At no time before or while they were at my house did they ask him to come over to look at the problem that they "said" they were fixing. They never even called me to tell me they would like to come over to work on the problem. I had initially sent them an e mail with my concerns and got no reply from them for a week so I then sent them another e mail telling them since they didn't reply that I would have it fixed and send them a bill. Then all of a sudden they decide to show up without telling anyone. It is NOT fixed. In fact they mentioned to Mr [redacted] that the deck won't fall down. The deck is not done correctly. At the time of the incident when they claim they allegedly fixed the problem [redacted] was not even licensed as a contractor in the state of PA. His license had been expired as of 7/31/13 and had not been renewed until 8/22/13. That in itself is (or should be) a violation of state law. In order for this issue to be resolved I feel that [redacted] must correct the problem with myself as well as the local building inspector overseeing the project. I do believe that the consumer protection agency is there to protect consumers against companies and products that do not meet proper standards. This problem has NOT been corrected and it needs to be. Thank you [redacted] Once again I refuse to accept their reply that this has been resolved. I had stated previously that I as well as the building inspector must be present when this is corrected. No one (not [redacted]s office nor the building inspector) has spoken to me (or sent me anything documenting this is done correctly and will not fail) about this being done properly. Nothing was done. You just don't go onto someone's property to fix something without letting them know you are going to be there and show them how you are going to fix the problem. I have been in the building business for 29 years and with the contractors we deal with that is something that is just not done unless the contractor is trying to "pull something over on the homeowner". I have documents which I can supply (if needed) that shows the manufacturer of the decking states the decking must be secured properly to the floor joist and in turn the floor joist must be secured properly to the deck beam. It's common sense. After all the beam is where your support comes from. I paid top dollar to have this job done and I wanted it done correctly with no problems. I regret having to go to agencies to have this done to my satisfaction. Thank you. Regards, [redacted]
