Broadview Kennels Reviews (1)

***’s passing is tragic and has been devastating to everyone involved. The staff of Broadview Kennels & Grooming (Kennel) has been greatly affected by ***’s passing because he was such a terrific animal but the loss felt by his family is something that can’t we can’t even begin to
equal in our grief over his departure. The Kennel is sorry for his passing but this was something that we did not have any control over nor did the Kennel or its staff cause. *** was checked in on Tuesday, January 3rd, with a projected pick up date of Friday, February 3rd, 2017. From the time *** was boarded until the morning of Saturday, January 21st, 2017, he appeared to be healthy and rapidly acclimated into our kennel routines without any difficulties. He was eating and drinking and his bodily functions appeared to be for a dog of his age and size. On the morning of Saturday, January 21st, 2017, *** was found in his kennel and was unresponsive. He gave all appearances of having expired during the night or early morning hours. His pupils were fixed and dilated, his gums were grey, not pink. He did not appear to breathing and offered no response to pain stimulation. His abdomen was firm and distended. *** was presenting classic signs of Torsion. Torsion is when a dog’s stomach twists along its central axis and creates a blockage. There are very few warning signs that an animal presents prior to this happening and there are no clear prevention precautions that can be taken. Torsioning happens mainly to large breed dogs, elderly dogs, and dogs that otherwise appear to be in good health but it can happen, without warning, to any dog*** was taken to *** *** *** *** ***, which was the closest animal hospital in the area that was open. Broadview Animal Clinic, which is located one (1) block west of the Kennel compound, was not open on Saturday, January 21st, because they were upgrading their computer systems. (Please note that Broadview Animal Clinic and the Kennel are NOT affiliated in any way and are separate companies.) CPR was performed on *** at *** *** but they were not able to revive himThe original agreement was to board *** for approximately thirty-one (31) days, from January 3rd to February 3rd, 2017, at the rate of twenty-six dollars ($26.00) per day for an estimated boarding cost of eight hundred six dollars and no cents ($806.00). (x = 806) At the time *** was boarded, all of the vaccinations required by the state of *** for boarding him had to be administered because no proof of his vaccinations was presented by his owner. The state of *** requires that all dogs being boarded within the state of *** be current on their Rabies, DA2PP, and Bordatella shots and that it is the owners’ responsibility to provide a copy of their animal’s shot record when boarding. ***’s owner agreed to have the required shots administered by the kennel when he was checked in. The cost of seventy-five dollars and no cents ($75.00) for all three (3) of the vaccinations was added to their bill. These shots were administered to *** on January 3rd, 2017. The total estimated cost for ***’s stay was then estimated to be eight hundred eighty-one dollars and no cents ($881.00). A payment of four hundred forty dollars and fifty cents ($440.50) was made on January 3rd which left a balance owing on the estimated board of four hundred forty dollars and fifty cents ($440.50)Estimated number of days Cost per day Estimated board charges $Vaccination charges $Total estimated kennel charges $Less prepayment -$Balance due at checkout $Since *** passed away on January 21st, 2017, a recalculation the boarding fees for eighteen days shows the cost to be four hundred, sixty-eight dollars and no cents ($468.00) plus seventy-five dollars ($75.00) for vaccinations brings to the total due to five hundred, forty-three dollars and no cents ($543.00). This leaves a balance due of one hundred, two dollars and fifty cents ($102.50) for kennel fees and vaccinations. Estimated number of days Cost per day Estimated board charges $Vaccination charges $Total estimated kennel charges $Less prepayment -$Balance due at checkout $Other expenses were incurred with ***’s passing. The cost for the emergency care administered by *** *** Animal Hospital was one hundred, forty-six dollars and thirty-two cents ($146.32). The cost of cremation services are sixty dollars and no cents ($60.00) plus twenty-five dollars and no cents for picking up *** on a Saturday plus twelve dollars and no cents for his paw print. The total for these additional expenses comes is two hundred, forty-three dollars and thirty-two cents ($243.32) Other expenses: *** *** Animal Hospital Cremation Paw Print Saturday Pickup charge Total $The outstanding balance for ***’s stay, including the other expenses, is three hundred, forty-five dollars and eighty-two cents ($345.82). In *** *** complaint she states “ I need Broadview Kennels to be accountable for non professional actions.” The assertion by *** *** of “non professional actions” is not factual. It is fully understandable that she and her family were upset and devastated that morning by the loss of ***; that their emotions were running very high for them with his passing but everything that the Kennel and its staff did regarding the care for *** was professional. *** *** was upset over the Kennel’s treatment of ***’s remains. Although she feels she has the right to be upset, the fact remains that he was treated with respect. Yes, he was placed in “black heavy duty bag” but this is an industry standard and the cremation service requires that all remains be in a bag of this nature but at no time was any disrespect intended towards either *** or his family. Yes, he was placed in a snow bank and yes, the snow bank was at the far end of the Kennel parking lot approximately twenty (20) feet from a dumpster. Once again, this was by no means meant to be disrespectful of *** ***, her family or *** himself but it was a practical solution to a storage issue. The Kennel does not have either a large wacold storage unit or a chest style freezer that would be large enough to hold ***’s remains but by placing him in a snow bank and covering his remains with a layer of snow, the Kennel was attempting to keep him until the Cremation Service was able to pick him up or the family could take him for burial. At no time was any of this done out of disrespect for him or his familyThe Kennel is willing to waive the costs of the additional charges for the animal hospital visit ($146.32) and cremation services ($97.00) for a total of $but is asking that the outstanding kennel charges of one hundred, two dollars and fifty cents ($102.50) be paid in full by *** ***
