I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
As expected, Berlin Hospital denies any responsibility by putting all the blame on the patient. When I was admitted as an out-patient, I clearly asked the admitting clerk if they accepted this insurance and she stated yes. Think about it, if she said no or I'm not sure, I would of went elsewhere. Why would a person even put themselves in such a situation needlessly, especially when they have insurance? It doesn't make senseAre they not sure what insurance plan is accepted at their hospital? Is that a fair, just, and competent way to run a business? Are they that desperate for business? I have tried to set up a payment plan by filling out an application for community care help which they rejected. How can a business operate as if they do not have a clue of which insurance company they are contracted with? No, I absolutely reject their shameful response. Obviously there was a thorough lack of communication in the business department as they where being bought out by another company. And instead of losing business until they were fully contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield, they accepted it, hoping they would receive payment but not taking into consideration the financial debt unfairly placed on the patient! How can such a large business lack a conscious and demand payment for a situation they created? They should of referred me elsewhere. They dropped the ball. They are responsibleThank you for your kind consideration in this matter. Please help

I did some research on her account and found that she actually does owe the $The claim was denied by Blue Cross as not being a benefit in her planShe contacted us and we contacted Blue Cross and resubmitted the claimThe second time they denied it as out of networkOur registration staff does not ever tell a patient that something is covered because we have no way of knowing with all the specific plans out thereIt is the patient’s responsibility to check with their insurance if something is coveredShe was contacted multiple times receiving statements and past due bill letters along with multiple phone conversationsShe had the option of setting up a payment plan but chose not toBlue Cross denied it twice and both reasons would fall to her being responsible for the balanceShe chose not to do anything until it went to collectionsWe always try and work with patients but in this instance the balance is her responsibility and she decided not to set up a payment planShe certainly does have the option to set one up nowI did contact Glynda and let her know I was looking into her accountThanks *** *** RHIT, CCS-PLead - Patient Account Rep IICommunity Health NetworkBerlin, WI 54923(920)361-5511Fax (920)361-5514***
