Brookside Builders

Review: We hired [redacted], the owner of Brookside Builders in [redacted] to replace 23 windows in Nov. 2014. We also asked him to do some work in addition to replacing windows. The additional work included removing existing gutters, demolition of old fascia, applying new PVC fascia, and replacing gutters, which he charged us for $600. The total amounts billed to us based on the invoices was $22,584, including the billing for the additional work. We have paid $24,584 in total based on the cancelled checks. We over paid him $2,000 as a result. As soon as we found out the over payment, we contacted him immediately in the beginning of Jan. 2015. We have been trying to contact him ever since. He acknowledged the overpayment. But for the most part over a month, he didn't respond to our calls and follow ups. We have given him plenty of opportunities to do the right thing. He is just not responsive.

The quality of the work was not good for the first few days and some part during the project. His employee had to spend hours/days redoing the work or replacing the work that was done earlier. As a result, it caused some delay on finishing up the necessary procedures that needed to complete the project. However, [redacted] charged us an extra $720, claimed that it was for the hours on the last day or two and associated to the additional work mentioned above. We disagree with the additional charge. Per the last invoice, $600 was billed and paid for the additional work described above. The additional work was not a lot. With the experience of the worker, it could be done as it was quoted. Furthermore, the last day and so, his employee worked on caulking the 23 windows inside and outside, which was to wrap up the project and not related to the additional work.

Review: Company was contracted to renovate a home. We used a very detailed contract which laid out not only the scope of work and detailed payment installments but the materials and detailed level of work required. Brookside Builders agreed to this contract (signed). Unfortunately the contractor failed to pay subcontractors for work completed and failed to complete the contracted workscope. We completed the significant work by funding some of the contractors directly, which caused us to overpay the contracted amount. Despite repeated written and verbal assurances Brookside Builders would repay us, he has failed to do so. Moreover, we are seeing issues with the work that was completed by certain subcontractors (floors) that were installed improperly resulting in splitting, buckling and pealing. Given the contractors failure to pay subcontractors and failure to repay us we are being forced to pay warranty work ourselves. We still have not received all the work we had contracted for, but given or knowledge that Brookside Builders cannot pay for the subcontractors to work, it cannot be completed.Desired Settlement: This a classic problem that many consumers face, especially when it comes to home remodeling. While we cannot advertize Brookside Builders does not have the financial resources to complete other jobs (Brookside Builders has advised us of this directly) we believe Brookside Builders may be continuing to operate as a going concern. Our intention here is warn other consumers who might be considering this contractor. We would like to recover the sums due us, but we know this contractor (like many others) is simply an LLC and there are limited avenues to secure (i) repayment and (ii) completion of the contracted works. Filing a complaint with the Revdex.com is our only limited option here. Hopefully others will review this business with the Revdex.com and notice the problems and secure an alternative contractor.
