Other than an apology, I would  like for the public to be aware of the kind of service provided by Brown Funeral Home so no other family will ever have to experience rude and unprofessional behavior while grieving a loved one!

In response to the complaint that you received regarding [redacted]'s services and funeral arrangements.[redacted] passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at her residence. Prior to our staff returning from the home with [redacted], the office received a phone call from a daughter, [redacted], to...

schedule an appointment for Friday, June 10 at 9:30AM. On Wednesday, June 8, 2016 we received a telephone call from another daughter who said that "they" the other children wanted an appointment for Thursday and did not see any reason to wait until Friday. The appointment was scheduled for 9:00AM on Thursday, June 9, later that day the appointment was rescheduled by the family to 11:00AM.The family argued back and forth who was in charge. [redacted] said if she was paying the money she was in charge; other daughters/sisters want more expensive merchandise and [redacted] wasn't going to pay if they chose expensive merchandise. The family was told they all had to be in agreement of what was going to happen.The family was informed that if the full down payment wasn't made, services would be postponed. [redacted] and [redacted] both knew that [redacted] needed to have her share into the funeral home before Sunday or services would be cancelled. Robert F[redacted] had met with the family and scheduled a visitation at the funeral home for Saturday, June 11 and a graveside service for Sunday, June 12 in Maysville, WV. At the time of the arrangements payment was discussed. [redacted] agreed to make payment of $5,012.00 in cash on Sunday morning June 12, 2016. After speaking with [redacted] she agreed to provide the $1,500 before Sunday to make up the difference on the account.The cemetery would not commit to a service date until the family met their requirements, due to the fact that the cemetery had previous bad experiences and legal battles with this family. The family had refused to follow the cemetery rules and regulations and didn't like the cemetery trying to enforce their regulations onto them. The cemetery also did not want to meet with this family and didn't want to receive anypayments from them other than money order or cash to buy a space. If the family was using someone else's space they would need to have notarized paperwork stating so, have it delivered to the local Sheriff's department and they would bring the paperwork to the cemetery.Our staff received a message from [redacted] on June 9, 2016 that she would like the service changed to Monday, June 13. There was constant conflict between the children on service and required payment. Family phoned on June 9 at 6:30PM to say that family members backed out and they were going to try to regroup to get money together.June 12, 2016 Lewis B[redacted] reported the following information. We had received $5,000.00 down payment. The two daughters, [redacted] and [redacted] now only wish to know the day and time of burial. They will not be attending. We will call the other three daughters, [redacted], and [redacted]. They will probably attend the graveside. June 13, 2016 Lewis reported that he had talked to daughter, [redacted] about 2:00PM about remainder of down payment ($1,500). She was to call Lewis back. A grandson called later and was very belligerent with Lewis about the money. Lewis invited him to come in and talk in the office. Lewis heard nothing more. June 13, 2016 6:30PM [redacted] called and left a message for Lewis to call her that she promises that she won't be nasty just wants to know why mom hasn't been buried yet -- family is not sharing information.Down payment was not received as discussed so therefore the graveside service was cancelled. They were told that service would be rescheduled once the down payment was received, [redacted]'s payment had not been received.[redacted] said she didn't care what happened to her mother, said "she smoked crack and was abusive". She was sorry we had to deal with her sisters because they are crazy and only make things difficult. [redacted] also stated that [redacted] was a drunk and drinks her money away is only lying to the funeral home.On June 13, 2016 at 4:12PM [redacted] called very upset and threaten to "cancel her credit card payment" and was very irrational. Finally [redacted] was told that they need to use another funeral home. This was after the family already had their visitation at the funeral home. The funeral home was willing to cut our losses and have them use another funeral home. [redacted] called once again and left a message for Robert that [redacted] Funeral Home would not "take the body"; another family member called later and asked to speak to a director. [redacted] would not conduct any services with this family due to past difficult experiences with them.Brown Funeral Home was warned by "others" to make certain we receive our money up front or we wouldn't see it.All down payment money was received and service was conducted on June 19, 2016 (Father's Day). One daughter showed up for the service.As of today's date there is still a balance of $2428.65. Please let us know if you need any further assistance with this matter.
