This is a direct complaints against Brown’s Amusements and their employee and management. It clearly states here in their mission statement,” Brown's Amusements has committed itself to provide your event/fair with the most professional and courteous management and staff. We carefully choose our team members” [redacted]. (2015, January 1). Retrieved May 1, 2015, from [redacted]. I find this very hard to believe. My daughter brought a friend to the fair. We had just arrived and were buying the arm bands for the ride, when he said $30 dollars, my mouth hit floor. He said,” Ya can’t you see it the on the sign’s?” I was blown away by his reaction. We paid, I was displeased, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. My daughter then wanted to get a slushy. She ordered from a Browns amusement food stand. He gave her the wrong flavor. No biggie. I nicely stated, “Oh I am sorry, but she said cherry not blueberry.” The worker at the window stated,” NO. You said blue!” I kindly again stated,” Sorry.” He got huffed and made the cherry and practically tossed out of the window! Wow!! Really. Ok well this day is not starting off too well. Why are these employees being so RUDE? The girls decide that they are going to ride their first ride. The sizzler. Then my daughter, her friend, and another friend they met with, climb on the sizzler ride. Everything was ok for a minute or so. While I am taking pictures I realize that my daughter is crying. I can see the terrified look on her face!! I immediately go to the worker, ( I believe his name [redacted]) and I say to him, “Excuse me my daughter is crying, she is in pain. Can you please stop the ride?” He ignores me. So I ask again. He then throws his left hand up in the air as to shush me. I asked several more times. Each time I get the hand up in the air. After about 45 secs, I began to raise my voice and say,” Excuse me. Is there not an ER shut of switch that you can hit and get my child off this ride?” Mind you my daughter who is 8 years old, has tears rolling down her cheek and a terrified look on her face!!! As a mother I want to protect her and this employee is doing nothing but sitting on his stool. I ask again about the ER switch. The ride now appears to be slowing down on its own, he states,” MAYBE!” MAYBE!!! Meaning there is and yet he refuses to push the stop button. As a mother my heart is crushed I just want my baby, and to make sure that she is ok. Once I get her off the ride and make sure that she is ok. She stated,” I couldn’t breathe mom. I was so squished, and my hip was hitting the side really hard.” I then ask the worker for his name and where I can find his manager. He will not respond. I attempt to read his badge and he removes it. I then began to walk away and snap a picture of him shooing me away again. (This picture was taken with my personal cell phone.)
I want to be clear that at NO TIME did he attempt to stop the ride or care that my daughter was scared and hurt!! My daughter is very thin and petite. She was visibly shaken and hurt. I walked to the ticket counter in which we received the arm band for the rides earlier, and spoke with the same man who was very rude earlier. I sharply asked,” Where is the manager!?” He responds,” Why?” I repeat, “Where is the manager?” He stated,” It is over there the green and white trailer behind the wheel.” I proceed to the manager window and knock on the glass. There I was greeted by this women who appears here. I was so flustered that I did not see her name. Reference for picture used here: [redacted] (2015, January 1). She is the woman in the back here. She heard my complaint and the situation of what had happened word for word. She nodded and stated,” Ok, um well I will talk with him. Which ride was this?” I stated,” It was the sizzler ride.” She stated,” Ok I will speak with him.” I went on to state,” Speak with him. I am sorry. Is this how you run your business. This is ridiculous!!! I want a refund for this ride band that I paid 30 dollars for.” She then stated,” Hold on just a second.” She left the window and was on her radio. A few moments later she came back and stated,” I spoke with the owner and the ride is on a timer and will end at a certain time.” I then stated,” YES!! BUT THERE IS AND EMERGENCY SWITCH BUTTON THAT WAS NEVER PUSHED!!! I stood there and watched the man the whole time. Trying to get him to stop the ride. She then replied,” Yes, there is a switch. I will talk with him. And the owner said they will not issue a refund.” I stated,” Really. Well we are not riding any of your rides and I will make sure people know how you run your business here!” I then proceeded to walk away.
I am more upset with the employee not caring about my daughter!!! What if she was having an asthma attack or something more serious?!!! I am a ** at [redacted] I look forward to the fair coming to town and supporting the community. But I never in my life have experienced this kind of situation. I am not one to complain. I let things roll of my back all the time. But today they put my CHILD in DANAGER and nothing was done. The employee just sat there!!!! He did not lift a finger. WHY????? I cannot understand this for the life of me. I was willing to let the rest go. The rude employees at every window. I get it the job is not cake. It is hard, you deal with people all day and it is hot. But when you endanger a CHILD or anyone that is CROSSING the line. I do not know a parent that would not give their life to protect their child. No matter how big or small the issue was with my daughter, he should have stopped the ride. PERIOD!!!!
I am willing to take this as high as I have to, to make this be known. I will be sending this to local newspapers and TV news. This is not safe. I do not want any other child to face what my daughter did today.
I have attached photos that do not appear to be showing here. I can send them to those who may need them.
