We hired Buckeye Roofing to replace our roof after hail damageThe representative of the business was prompt, professional, and helpfulThe day the roof was to be replaced, my husband and I happened to be off work- The contractors began working on the roof, blocking the garage and driveway in the processThey did not knock on the door or ask us whether or not we needed our car out of the garage before they blocked it in- As they were working, they were quite hasty and careless in regards to our landscaping, decorations, and outdoor furniture Although they did move our patio table away from the house, they broke the umbrella in the process, but failed to mention that to us They just left it for us to discover- The scissor lift/machine that they drove through our yard left deep ruts in several places, which were not repaired promptly when the job was completed- The lift also leaked oil on our brand new driveway as well as throughout our yard, staining the driveway and killing the grass in several spots- Our house and garages also had gutter guards that were previously installed During the roof replacement, those guards were bent up, screws pulled out, and were not replaced at the end of the project- Our holiday rope lights were left hanging down in several places (including across the garage door and the house door) after the clips were broken off from the roofers- Despite specific instructions to use short nails on one section of the roof, one of the workers hammered in a long nail which protruded through the thin ceiling tile inside the house The nail (and the hole it created) were then visible inside the houseBecause we were home when it happened, we were able to stop them before they put any more holes into those tiles)
- When the work was done for the day, the workers did not tell us they were done, and they didn't fix any of the issues we just describedWe contacted the representative and sent him pictures of the damageHe contacted the roofers and they returned on several occasions to do repairs- They rinsed the oil off the driveway the next day, but the stain was still noticeable- Their first attempt at the interior nail hole was messy, with putty scrapings left on our carpet and the repair was almost as conspicuous as the hole itselfIt took more attempts to make it acceptable- Half of the gutter guards were not addressed at all until the 4th or 5th visit- The smaller ruts were filled and covered with grass seed, but the two larger ruts were not addressed- The clips for the lights were not replaced The roofers just used nails to tack up the lights, which quickly came back down- The expense for replacing the patio umbrella was deducted from the bill, which we appreciatedEach of the visits to make repairs was in response to us contacting the representative about our dissatisfaction with the job quality; they did not voluntarily return to fix anythingAbout years ago, we replaced the same roof using a different company They put over holes in our ceiling tiles because they didn't realize the nails were going throughThey too had to come back and fix those holes and repaint the tiles, which they did promptly and professionally We had no other complaints or issues with the quality of the materials, the conduct of the workers, or the condition of the house following their workTherefore, the issues we experienced during this roofing project were not just "par for the course" - they were avoidableWe choice to withhold our final payment to the company until all of the damage issues were addressedAs a result, we are now nearing the two month mark and still communicating with pictures of what has yet to be fixed

I spoke with the customer a few months ago and sent my crew leader [redacted] out immediately. We looked at the boards and did find 3 boards the grain was facing the wrong way. We will gladly remove and replace.
All boards were snugged up tight when installed. Fresh wood ALWAYS shrinks so a gap is common and will always happen with new wood. Customer said it was code for clips to be installed. I told him not to my knowledge or my crews knowledge. They are only required on new construction. His roof was a re-roof.   Customer called our office on a Sunday evening and left a message. I returned call at 11am following day and spoke with him. I told him about the 3 boards and we would schedule to come out. I told him that I could not find any code that says the clips are necessary. He told me to come out to his house. I told him that is not necessary and to please provide me with the written code he is speaking of, I told him if he was correct about the code I would make it right.  He said he would see me in court and hung up on me. I called back and left a very slow clear message with my email address and told him to email me the code he says a re roof requires clips and I will be back in contact with him but I cannot help him when he hangs up on me. I can not take a verbal request or a " so and so said it was code" As I said before, please provide the code that requires clips on a re roof and I will be in touch with my crew to make this right. If you can not provide the code I will send someone out to remove the 3 boards and put new down with new shingles.   I am more than willing to help but gaps in boards are normal. If the issue is with boards shrinking we can contact [redacted] and inform them of what happened and see if they will help. Nothing in the contract says installing clips and I could not find any code stating it either. Please advise.
