The vehicle was initially inspected and found to have a leaking water pump. Our inspection process also includes testing for...

hydrocarbons in the cooling system and chemical testing of the coolant. Being that there was no coolant in the vehicle due to the leaking water pump, the chemical test was inconclusive. The hydrocarbon test was negative.
This vehicle has a water pump that is driven by a timing belt. Being that the belt was contaminated by coolant, standard procedure is to replace the water pump with a timing belt.
Client was advised what was found and was provided an estimate to repair. Client elected to have the repairs performed.
Repairs were made and test drive performed. Vehicle was ran and retested for hydrocarbons in the cooling system. Excessive hydrocarbons in the cooling system are an indicator of a failed internal gasket. Vehicle ran normal, fans turned on normally, testing was negative for a blown head gasket.
Client paid her [redacted] and collected the vehicle. We were informed that it did not make it home and was towed back in for re-inspection. A free rental car was offered to the client. Hydrocarbon test was again negative, coolant flow was normal, fan operation was normal.
We suspect that the engine has an internal failure. Replacement of the water pump and timing belt can not contribute to a pre-existing condition. Replacement of the engine and or repair of the existing engine [redacted] exceed the value of the vehicle.
Client incorrectly asserts that the vehicle was damaged by changing the water pump and timing belt. The parts changed are working normally, and can not contribute to the overheating issue experienced.
Client was offered her money back in exchange for the worn out car. Knowing that the engine is damaged beyond repair makes the car's value junk status. My intent was to perform an exploratory inspection on the engine during off time to determine where the internal failure was located for our edification and knowledge, as these vehicles do not have a history of this type of failure.
Client was refunded all of her money even though it was no fault of our shops except attempting to repair the vehicle in the first place. Please inform the client that she can retrieve her vehicle. Instruct her to contact our office to make arrangements.
We have been in business over 50 years, and make it our point to have positive relationships with our clients, even if the vehicle can not be repaired. In hindsight, I should have informed her that the water pump was leaking and that we would not take on her job because of the possibility of unforeseen issues.

Received business response via email on 11/10/15:

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 12, 2015/11/20) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
My vehicle was repaired at no cost. At time of pickup, [redacted] stated that the reason for failure was do to low fluid. This was caused because of a leak and that it would have to be repaired. At no time was I made aware of this leak nor was I told about a leak prior to pickup. He stated that he was not going to repair the leak and if I wanted it repaired that I would have to do it. His resolution for fixing the leak was to have my transmission filled with fluid each time I get an oil change.
I am not satisfied at all do to this information I received. If this shop was anywhere on the up and up I would have been informed of the leak or it would have been part of the warranty repair.
I fill that this should have been part of the repair as it was part of the failure issue. The leak is the only reason the fluid was low and is what cause the situation. If this was a warranty extension the shop should make sure that the transmission was 100% before putting it back on the street and allowing a consumer and his family to get in the vehicle.
I expect a full warranty repair before I am satisfied and knowing that my vehicle is safe and the transmission is working 100%.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2015/11/30) */
Mr. [redacted]'s transmission was repaired and he was not charged anything for the repair.
This repair was done beyond the warranty.
Cause of the failure was low/lack of fluid due to leaks from axle seals. At the time of repair, there was no obvious factor found leading to the axle seal leak.
New axle seals were installed at the time of repair.
Mr. [redacted] was advised to have his fluid checked when he had regular maintenance performed on the vehicle.
Maintaining the oil level of the transmission is the responsibility of the owner of the vehicle.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I was not charged anything and it is correct that it was completed beyond warranty as also mentioned in previous comments.
It is untrue per the services and invoice that there was any work completed on the axel seals. I have a copy that shows the work completed

*Rebuilder noted failure was in the final drive gear bearing and the 5th gear bearing from lack of lubrication. Noted leaking axel seals when vehicle was delivered. Clutch burnt- replaced under good [redacted] warranty. Rebuilder comments and photos on file. This repair does not constitute any extension of prior expired warranty or serve as a merchantable contract for further repair or warranty.*
As the comments above state. There were no repairs to the seals at all nor replaced. Also I (the consumer) was not contacted about the leaks. Mr [redacted] stated at the time of pickup that there is a leak in the axel seals and that is what caused the failure. He stated that they were NOT replaced and to have the fluids checked out at time of oil changes.
This business owner is cutting corners and is reporting false repair statements about my vehicle. I do have a copy that I am willing to submit to the Revdex.com of the repair invoice.
