Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2016/04/14) */
(Revdex.com - converted from original documentSee file.)
We did some minor repair work on September 2, 2015, for this customerWe installed two (2) chimney caps, one (1) on each flu extending from the top of the chimney according to our
contractual agreementThe flu tiles are approximately 1/inches above the concrete cap on top of the chimneyThis type of installation does not allow the friction tightened screws to properly clasp the chimney tile to ensure a snug fitThe customer was also notified that there would be no warranty on this type of repair because we could not properly fasten the chimney capsHe was also notified the customer that strong winds could lift the caps off of the tilesIt is also physically impossible for the chimney caps to fall off sitting atop of the chimney tiles and the skirting and screws wrapping and fastening to the outside of the tile flusThe installation was done according to standard practices for the state of Ohio and completed in a workmanlike manner
According to our records we do not show any voicemails left by this customerHe did, however, stop at our jobsite in January 2016, while we were doing a repairI told the customer we would be willing to come out and install the caps again when the weather was permitting to get up on a roof without risk of injuryWe also informed him that the tiles need to be replaced and extended out of the concrete cap to the standard height for a correct installationWe did not make a mistake in the installation of this productWe installed this product with what we had to work with and notified the customer of the risk
To address the rain going down the customer's chimney these caps 'do not' and make no such claim, nor do we that they will prevent water from going down the flu of a chimneyThey are mainly designed to keep birds and rodents out of the homeAll chimneys with tile flus are open at the top and will allow water to enter into the home at the base of the chimneyTo remediate this problem a chimney mason needs to be called in to address the water issue
We are willing to put the chimney caps back up one more time at no chargeIf the chimney caps blow off again it is up to this customer to take the necessary steps to fix his chimney tiles for a proper installation of the chimney capsAs stated to the customer prior to signing the contract this installation was not and is not warrantedThe customer will need to contact us to set up a date for the installation
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Richard ** W***

We installed a new roof for Mr***We removed all of the old roofing and installed all new roofing materials on his home according to our contractual agreementThe installation was
done according to standard practices for the state of Ohio and completed in a workmanlike manner
According to our contractual agreement we only install new pipe boots around existing soil pipesWe do not install new electrical mast boots unless the customer agrees to have Ohio Edison shut off the power from their pole coming into the head of the electrical mast, hire a certified electrician to remove the electrical mast head in order for us to remove the old mast boot and install a new mast boot, and then have the electrician re-install the
mast head and then have Ohio Edison turn the power back on from the poleAs in most cases this option was not pursued
We met with the customer and installed a zrubberized boot that is designed to go over an existing boot and installed an aluminum plate under the bootWe installed new sealant around all edges for added protectionThis was not in our contract to do and completed this repair for the customer free of charge!
As to address where the shingles were pulling up, we used an Owens Corning self-stick roll out shingle around the entire perimeter that acts as a seamless starter row of shinglesIn approximately six areas we observed where the self-stick had released from the aluminum drip edgeWe installed new sealant to repair where the lifts were Occurring and reminded the customer we do not manufacture this product and cannot control if it releases from the aluminum drip edgeWe also made the customer aware that we stopped using this product
because of past issues with its adhesive qualitiesAll repairs were made free of charge
As to the installation of the roofingAll components of the roof we installed were installed according to the manufacturer's suggested installation proceduresWe are a Preferred Contractor through Owens Corning and rigorously abide to their installation practices to ensure that the warranty we hand to the customer will be upheld by the manufacturer
I spoke with Mr*** when the repairs were completed and he said he was very satisfied
Sincerely and Respectfully,

Final Consumer Response /* (2000, 9, 2016/06/20) */
Buddy W***, did contact me and corrected the deficiencies with my roof, he did an excellent job and I am very pleased with the result

Response to Consumer's Complaint:We installed new siding for *** ***We removed all of the old siding and installed all new siding materials on her home according to our contractual agreementThe installation was done according to standard practices for the state of Ohio and completed in a
workmanlike manner.According to our contractual agreement we only installed new vinyl siding and new aluminum gutters on the house and attached garageWe "DID NOT" remove or install any aluminum fascia/counter-flashing on the fascia boards, old existing windows, on the dormers, etcWe "DID NOT" install the roofing on her home which is the source of this leak*** *** was told prior, during, and after the installation of her siding that her roof needed to be replaced because the installation was so badly done that it will continue to leakThe contractor who installed the roofing did a very shoddy installation which caused the initial leaking and interior water damage 'prior' to our arrival to complete the siding installation*** *** had what appears to be a handyman service with no certifications over to do a counter-flashing installation on the front of the leaking dormerThe counter-flashing installation was done very poorly with large open gaps on each side that you could fit your index and middle fingers intoAlso, all of the step-flashing and counter-flashing on the dormers is original and was not replaced by the contractor who installed the roofing. As for the gap between the roof deck and the base of the siding J-channel, *** *** was told why it was elevated 1/inched off the shinglesThe elevation was set into place so the roofing could be replaced correctly and a vinyl Azek board should be cut to size and installed with the new step-flashing underneath it, with sealant, to ensure a proper installation and the elimination of any possibility of a future leak. When we were informed that the repair she had done by a handyman service had failed it was months after we finished our siding work on the homeWe met with *** *** at her home and tried to trouble shoot the leak in the dormer and decided upon installing sealant where the handyman service failed to correctly install their flashing work on the dormerWe did this assessment and installed the sealant "free of charge." We are "NOT" responsible for the incorrect installation of her roofing and we are "NOT" responsible for the incorrect installation of her counter-flashing she had done between the roof and the front of the dormerWe were only contracted to install the siding on the walls of the home which did not start this leak or progress this leak in any wayThis leak has been there for over a year according to the customer and we do not understand why she has not contacted the very person who installed her roof and where the leak originated from! The complaint background also shows that the problem occurred before we ever arrived to do the installationWe have tried to do our part to satisfy *** *** and have encouraged her to contact her roofing contractor to correct the terrible installation of that roofWe feel we have made every attempt possible to remedy the situation but we will not perform repair work on work that we did not contract and install free of chargeWe offered to *** *** we could replace the area of roofing on the front of the home and correctly install all of the components to fix the pre-existing problem but could not repair/replace another contractor's work for free. All components of the siding were installed according to the manufacturer's suggested installation proceduresWe completed the work and *** *** was very happy with the siding installation and "paid in full" upon completionShe needs to contact her roofer to make right the entire roofmg installationWe also did not "rip off" *** ***She was charged only the amount agreed upon through our contract and absolutely nothing more! We regret that we cannot work for free to make the repairs to her roofing that we did not installThe job we contracted is finished in its entirety!Sincerely, Richard *W*** **------------------------------------------------------------------------------... We also wanted to disclose the first and second invoices for the work performed showing when we started the job and the down payment that was made to us by *** ***She states that the leak reoccurred on December 14, 2016, by her own admissionI would like to point out on invoice #that our start date was December 16, 2016, when the down payment was made according to our agreement and the work actually commencedAccording to *** *** her purchase date of, December 19, 2016, does not align with the actual date she made the down payment and, the final payment was not made until January 2, At no time was there any mention made about the continuous leak in her roof down into the kitchenI would also like to point out that if we were doing such a terrible installation and ripping her off why *** *** added additional projects for us to complete while we were thereInvoice #*** shows the initial agreement of $5,and all of the add-ons, or addendums, in a list format with itemized billing corresponding to each installation *** *** addedInvoice #*** also shows the completion date and the date in which it was "Paid in Full" with *** *** corresponding check #*** and my initials acknowledging the completion of the job and the satisfaction of the completed project by the customer, *** ***, by the writing of the check that dayInvoice #*** also shows that the completion date of the project was January 2, We would also like to point out that nowhere on the billing does it show where we, in any way, shape, or form, performed any work relating to the counter-flashing, fascia, roofing, etcto the dormer that was badly leaking prior to our arrival that was caused by the roofing contractor who installed a shoddy roof and was not properly repaired by her handyman service who made the botched repair to begin with*** *** contacted us the first week of May, to inform us that the dormer was leakingThe two so-called contractors was first the guy who made the botched counter-flashing repair and the second is her nephew who is a maintenance man from a local business, neither are actual contractorsWe understand *** *** frustration with the leak in her roof but she needs to contact the installer of her roof to replace the entire roof and install it correctly! I don't really understand why if the dormer was still leaking after the handyman made his repair why she waited almost 'MONTHS' to contact anyone about the problem? *** *** needs to contact her roofer to remedy the shoddy work on the roof and understand that we 'will not' repair the work of another contractor
