The catalytic converter was definitely bad, the test we use is an exhaust back pressure testOver time converters fall apart causing the small passages to clog with debrisThis restricts the exhaust system not letting exhaust gases easily flow-through the exhaust systemIn most cases you should not have had over 1/pounds per square inch of exhaust back pressureWhen the exhaust back pressure gauge was installed in your engine was it operating temperature your vehicle pegged the gaugeThere was no doubt catalytic converter was plugged
Distributors provide spark, a malfunctioning distributor can lead to a catalytic converter failingExcessive hydrocarbons can overheat the catalytic converter causing the breakdown of the catalyst inside and leading to high exhaust back pressure, this was more than likely the cause of the catalytic converter failureInitially or distributor was bad, which led to the catalytic converter failing
I hope this helps you understand

if you'd like to speak I can be reached at ***

We followed best practice,
*** had brought the car in on 6/7/for a died in flight conditionAt that time we diagnosed the distributer to be the problemAs part of the diagnosis the technician found no spark, and verified the distributer has gone bad*** authorized
the distributer replacementOn 7/09/*** brought the car back in for what he was saying was the same concern and vehicle started and ran fine but, after speaking to the customer we found out that the car wasn’t having the same concern but, loosing power, and eventually stalledFurther inspected for power loss and removed the catalytic converter and took a closer look and found the catalytic converter had come apart causing a restriction in the exhaustSpoke with *** and he authorized the repair at that timeOn 7/15/the car was brought back in for stalling and died in flightFurther inspected and found the new distributer we had installed had gone badWe replaced the distributer under warranty using a different manufactures partWe road tested to verify concern was resolved and no other problems were found at this timeUpon customer picking up the car I had offered to show Mr*** the failed catalytic converter and he declined
We don't see why he needs a refundWhat did we do wrong?

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
The converter was not the cause of the problem as was shown on the third visit where it states that the distributer from the first visit was faultyThe second visit I was told it was the converter that was the problemBut, the car had the same problem immediately after it was installedThe car broke down again on the freeway and had to be towed back to themafter repairing the faulty distributer the car ran fineThey were told to only fix the sputtering problem and not to repair every worn part in the car
Regards,
*** ***
