Review: My [redacted] dropped her retainer for her teeth and broke the wire on it. I bought the retainer from **. [redacted] on [redacted]. We took it back to **. [redacted] to see if he could fix it. The next day I called him back and he said he wouldn't be able to fix it so he would have to make her a new one for $250.00. I felt like that was too expensive so I called around a few places and found someone that would sauter it back together for $50.00. I called **. [redacted] to tell him I want to pick it up and he said he broke it into pieces because he was going to make another one. I asked him why would he break it into pieces if I already paid for it and he hung the phone up in my face. I tried calling him back immediately several times and he wouldn't answer the phone.Desired Settlement: Since **. [redacted] claimed to have broken the retainer into several pieces making it not repairable I would like for him to replace it.

Response:

Dear Sir,

On [redacted] West had an appointment in my office. She indicated that she had dropped her maxillary [redacted] retainer and broke the labial wire. Upon examining

it, the wire was broken inside the acrylic portion of the retainer; therefore the repair ofthe retainer (soldering the broken wire) was not possible. I told [redacted] this and the adult

who had driven her here for the appointment. They authorized me to make her a new retainer. I then took a new maxillary impression to make a stone model so that the new retainer could be fabricated. They informed me that they would pay tor the new retainer when they picked it up at the next appointment. So nothing was paid. The next day, I was in the process of fabricating a new retainer and they called to tell me that charge of$250. was too expensive. Whoever told **. [redacted] that the retainer could be soldered to repair it for $50. had no idea of the extent of the damage to the broken retainer.

I completely followed proper protocol. I have spent 2 1/2 years treating [redacted] orthodontically and obtained an excellent result. Proper retainer wear is essential to maintain her finished orthodontic treatment. I was being very consentaneous to ascertain my finished result. The fee of $250 for the taking of a new impression, make a stone model and then fabricate a new maxillary retainer

is a very fair fee. I certainly did not hang up on **. [redacted]. He was mad because [redacted] had broken the retainer.

Sincerely,
