At least the llamas were easier to deal with and showed more interest in our group than did the owner of Lander LlamaI have never written a review beforeBut then I have never used the services of a company like Lander Llama where the owner, Scott, showed such little interest in the people renting his bed and breakfast and llamasI have never understood why some people who don’t appear to show an interest in their guests get into the bed and breakfast business or become an outfitterHaving recently returned from a day llama trekking trip, where our group of people rented llamas from Lander Llama, I consider ourselves lucky compared to the other guy who was dropped off with his llamas at the trailhead at same time as us: at least our llama made it halfway down the trail before conking outThe only complaint we had about the llamas we were given on this trip was that one of them was either sick or way too old to be out on the trailOur walk with “Piney” was what I envision it must be like to visit a retirement home for old llamas that have been put out to pastureOn the first day on the trail, after numerous rest breaks, “Piney” finally gave out about ½ miles from our camping spotThis required us to leave someone behind with him while the rest of our group walked up ahead to the campground, unloaded the other llamas, and returned with one to carry the panniersRepeat part of this scenario every day on the trail and the llama experience doesn’t turn out to be exactly as envisioned in the brochureBut as I mentioned above, I considered ourselves lucky because as least “Piney” the llama made it part of the way down the trailAt the trailhead where we started, another guy renting two llamas was dropped off at the same timeHe headed down the trail before us, but we caught up with him about a mile laterHis llamas were stopped on the trail, refusing to budgeHe practically begged us to allow him to walk with us in the hope that it might get his llamas to moveHe walked with our group the rest of the day but when we ran into him on the trail two days later he was having the same problemBut hey, it’s a wilderness trip so all sorts of things happenSo when I asked for a refund for the cost of the one llama that was incapable of keeping up on our hikes, this is the response I received from Lander Llama“We will decline your request for refund on a llama for exhaustion and disruption of your trip logistics and the burden of an altered scheduleWe don't guarantee preferred or expected performance, or even equivalent performance with the llamas.”
Oh, and if you rent the Bunkhouse Bed and Breakfast that they rent out, watch your head in the loft upstairsThere are beds crammed up there with about a inch wide path between them and a very, very low ceiling and the photo they post online taken with a fish eye lens makes the place appear much bigger than it really is
