We saw Mrand Mrs [redacted] for their comprehensive eye examinationsin our office on May 5th, Before our patient's arrival we do verifyinsurance as a courtesy, however it is ultimately the patient'sresponsibility to fully understand their insurance benefits.Furthermore, any eligibility verification performed by our office is not aguarantee of coverage or payment- it is simply what the insurancecompany is able to confirm on the date of the phone call or online. We were advised that the patients' employer had just recently changedtheir vision plan from VSP (which we accept) to Davis Vision (which wedon't accept)We informed the [redacted] that we would not be able to billthe comprehensive eye exam to their vision plan because we don'taccept Davis VisionWe also informed the [redacted] that would be able tobill the exam only (i.enot the refraction) to their medical insurancewith the $capayThe additional .$75-per person mentioned in thecomplaint is our usual and customary charge for the refraction (part ofthe vision test that medical insurances do not typically cover) and wascollected after the exams were completedWhether that test isperformed is based on whether the patient wants to leave with aprescription for glassesThe patients both indicated that they wantedtheir prescriptions for glasses to be updated, which is why the doctorperformed the test necessary to accomplish this.We cannot refund for professional services that are provided by thedoctor- this is stated on signage in our office, along with the formsthat are signed by each patient during the check in and check outprocessWe are however, more than happy to provide them with anitemized receipt that they can then submit to Davis Vision forreimbursement for the refraction fees

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: We called to make an eye appointment at the Burien Eyecare Center because we had gotten glasses there many times. When I made the appointment the temporary receptionist told me if there were any problems he would give me a call back.  I received no call back so we went in for the appointment.  We hadn't received any new medical cards from Davis vision so we didn't know that [redacted] had changed providers.  When we arrived for the appointment the temp receptionist did say that [redacted] now had Davis Vision, however he didn't tell us that we wouldn't be covered. He had us pay our $15 deductible and told us to sit down and wait for the doctor.  The reason we made an appointment was due to the fact that I was retiring on July first and our vision coverage would go away.  We didn't tell the doctor that we absolutely had to have new glasses, only that we wanted a check up before our coverage ended.  It wasn't until after we had both seen the doctor that we were told that the refraction test was not covered and we'd have to come up with another $75 each. If they could have provided us with itemized receipts that we could submit to Davis Vision for reimbursement for the refraction test they never offered to.  Apparently, [redacted] switched to Davis vision January 1st, 2016, They should have been able to tell us they didn't accept their coverage when I called them to make the appointment.  They had known this for five months.  It's pretty clear that they were more concerned about making a profit from us than they were about doing right by their customers.  And after we complained we received another bill from them 2 1/2 months after the appointment. What was that, retribution?  I'm just amazed at how senior citizens are treated now days.Sincerely,[redacted]
