Burke Cleaners ruined my comforter. Owner refused to pay any portion of replacement cost, agreed to refund 1/2 of cleaning service, reneged & was rudeBalmoral Cleaners dry cleaning service ruined my $400 silk comforter. This comforter had been successfully dry cleaned by a different company 7 months prior. When I informed the employee on duty that the comforter was ruined, she indicated that she would notify the owner,[redacted]. Burke, and that[redacted]. Burke would call us the following week as it was the weekend and[redacted]. Burke was not in the office. I never received a call from[redacted]. Burke. Two weeks later, I called on a weekday and spoke to[redacted]. Burke. She refused to pay any portion of the replacement value. She agreed to pay one-half of the cost of the dry cleaning service that ruined the comforter. My wife went to the cleaners to get the agreed upon partial service refund.[redacted]. Burke took cash from the cash register and proceeded to re-state her position to my wife that her business was not responsible for the problem. My wife never commented or responded. She simply looked and listened. After finishing what she had to say and not getting a response from my wife,[redacted]. Burke became rude and unprofessional to my wife, stating to my wife that she, in[redacted]. Burke's words, could tell that my wife was not satisfied and had an attitude. She then proceeded to tell my wife she could leave and she placed the cash back into her cash register.To summarize, not only did we experience inferior dry cleaning service that ruined our $400 comforter, but we also experienced refusal to acknowledge any responsibility, refusal to contribute or refund any of the cost of replacing the comforter, refusal to refund the full amount of the dry cleaning service that ruined the comforter, verbal agreement to refund one-half of the cost of the dry cleaning service, and subsequently rude and unprofessional conduct/poor customer service followed by reneging on a verbal agreement to refund the one-half of the cost of the service in question.Desired Settlement$98: $38 (full refund of the cost of the service) plus $60 (15% of the cost of the $400 comforter). Replacement value was calculated using the INTERNATIONAL FAIR CLAIMS GUIDE FOR CONSUMER TEXTILES PRODUCTS from the Claims Guide at www.drycleaningcomplaints.com.Business Response All house hold items are accepted at ---Owners Risk. This is companypolicy.The customer is informed by the signage in the lobby.The customer is also informed when the item is received. At which time theCustomer is required to sign the invoice. The invoice is included.The signature is on the back.Customers feel old items should be new when cleaned never the case.This is our policy and will be.No refund will be given.
