Burns Roofing, LLC did in fact install a new roof for this customer in September of 2013. The roof was installed exactly as stated in the proposal. The proposal is highly detailed and follows closely to industry standards. In fact, in many places, it exceeds industry standards. The roof was...

installed correctly. Ice dams are not caused by the roof. Ice dams are caused by lack on ventilation and/or too little insulation; allowing heated house air to escape into the attic, melt the snow, and refreeze near the bottom forming an ice dam. In February 2014 the customer called me about a leak. I immediately went to their house and found an ice dam that was about 6" think and started at the gutter and stretched about 6 feet up the roof. I removed the ice dam and the leak was gone. The customer did not have any leaks during any other season; only during the winter season when ice dams usually occur. The customer had a leak in December of 2014. The customer would not allow me to inspect the leak. I was not permitted to even step foot on the property. I wanted to make an appointment and examine the leak and try to locate the cause. Since I was not permitted on the property, I could not determine where the leak was happening or what was causing it. At this point, the customer demanded that I pay $7000.00 or else they would call the Revdex.com and turn me into the Ohio Attorney General. I felt like it was extortion. I did not make payment. As of January 2015, the customer has already installed a new metal roof. At this point, I am unable to determine if a leak was present. Since I was not given the chance to check the leak, it could be several different problems. It could have been animal damage, a stray bullet hole, wind damage, condensation on the underside of the roof deck. I spoke with the customer's roofing company of choice for the metal roofing. I talked to [redacted] of [redacted]. He told me he hated to tear off such a good roof that was so new. He told me it was a good roof. He said it was a good job. [redacted] said Burns Roofing, LLC should have the opportunity to examine the problem and be given a chance to fix the leak. He hated to sell them a new roof, since it was not a bad roof. [redacted] even told the customer the garage roof would not need to be done, but the customer did not want different roofing. [redacted] told me the customer needed more insulation and offered to do it for them. He offered to remove the gable vent and blow it in. [redacted] told them they really needed more insulation. The customer did not want more insulation under any circumstances. [redacted] told them more insulation would solve the ice damming issues. In closing, since the roof did not leak during the spring, summer, or fall months, with big thunderstorms, the ice dams are the problem. Ice dams cannot be solved with a new roof. Ice dams are mainly caused by poor insulation. And since I was not given access to the property, I could not determine if a leak was present, or what, of the many causes, caused the leak. Thank You.
