Review: My wife and I used Bushwick Car Service yesterday (4/**/2104) at approximately 9:45PM to escort two friends to JFK airport. I called for a car to JFK and the dispatcher told me five minutes, and $30 for the fare. When I told him we were four passengers he said, "No problem, I'll send a minivan," and hung up the phone. The car that arrived was a Toyota RAV-4, a four-passenger car that is in no way a minivan, but our friends' minimal luggage fit in the trunk and the driver delivered us safely to the airport. When we arrived we passed her $35 in cash ($5 tip), and she then said the fare was $45, explaining that Buchwick Car Service charges 1.5x normal rate for "minivans". I explained to her that her dispatcher told me the fare was $30, and that, at any rate, her vehicle is not a minivan, and refused to pay the additional fare. She called base and had a conversation in Spanish, at which point she again insisted we pay the additional fare, which we ended up doing. I contacted the office afterwards to complain and they obviously sided with the driver. I'm angry and feel we were completely ripped off. We've used this service numerous times in the past, and even when riding in much larger, more comfortable vehicles than the RAV-4, have never had to pay additional fees for doing so. I'm also concerned that countless other consumers have been taken advantage of in this manner.Desired Settlement: I'd appreciate Bushwick Car Service to send a refund check for $15 to our postal address, [redacted]. I'd also appreciate if you could look into their business practices, including fare estimates over the phone, their policy of taking four passengers in ALL vehicles, as seems to be mandated by New York taxi law, and their definition of what vehicles constitute a "minivan" and can thus receive higher fares for.
