December 6, 2017Dear [redacted],I Dawn G[redacted] met with [redacted] on October 11, 2017 who presented with her 7 year old daughter who was alleged to have an aversion to different types of foods especially at family meal time.I never met [redacted] as he fore stated in his...

complaint. He has never been to the office. No promises were made to easily fix the said issue. The little girl responded well in the office during her sessions.Had I met him he would have had more clarity on how Hypnosis works as I often work directly with the parents and the child. The mother came to all appointments with her new born.As I informed [redacted], I have helped many children with this issue, yet results vary per individual. The process was explained. I offered six sessions and twelve sessions program with a $200 discount on either, compliments of her daughter's age. We offer no refunds as stated in the signed contract (enclosed) and additional sessions on selected extended programs. All programs are customized and success is dependent on the participant's ongoing practice outside of the office. Children ages 5-12 benefit from the parents' direct involvement. Promises from a Hypnotist of how an individual responds can never be given or determined as everyone is different. It is impossible for the Hypnotist to monitor how the parent will govern the minor's interaction at home, e.g. daily listening and practice of strategies to reach anticipated goals. Interaction is equal to one's success generally. It was explained at that time that I can help her become more comfortable in experimenting with new/different foods by creating a safe attitude about foods. At the time [redacted] stated her daughter will only eat chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, white pizza and French fries. Mom felt her daughter is afraid of eating new foods. During the first session it was established that the child was unafraid of food but had specific preferences. She loves sweet things. I discussed food textures, colors of interest, flavors, aromas and other things associated with food. Also, on follow-up sessions we explored why different foods are important to help her to grow, run, play and stay healthy. She was given assignments to eat up to 10 different foods which she said, she did and was excited to share with me the different foods she tasted of which I listed more than 12 and placed in her chart. She learned that “Food “ls” Safe”. I discussed with the mother that children never, ever starve themselves and will eat what appeals to them and they feel safe and comfortable eating. Generally young children grow into individuals who will explore.I presented the mother with literature (copy enclosed) that clarifies how children can respond to eating and learn resistance if felt forced. In Hypnosis we present food as magical, giving even super powers to help the said child to do all the fun things they love.Hypnosis helps change feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The effects of hypnosis are cumulative, the more the techniques are practiced and post-hypnotic suggestions are brought into play, the more permanent the results become. Suggestions stay with some individuals indefinitely, others need reinforcement. The daughter was given audio disc on muscular relaxation and breathing and audio directly related to enjoying a variety of foods twice. She received a weighted caterpillar to aid in her focused efforts as a takeaway to use while at home listening. She was taught strategies to reduce stress around new foods that she practiced in the office and anchors were set. Her mother was encouraged to listen to her disc with her daughter so she wouldn't feel isolated. On the fourth session I was informed that the daughter lashed out at her when she resisted eating a specific food. Since this was several days post session three l helped the daughter to understand better ways to handle frustration. Her sixth session was completed on November 21. I offered the mother to bring her daughter in for a seventh session after the holidays to assess how well she is responding with her mother's interaction. Mom responded “Thank You”. I am calendar noted to call [redacted] after January 1, 2018.Regards.Dawn G.

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: Ms. G[redacted] misstated several "facts" especially when it came to the initial session and follow up sessions. On her initial session, our our daughter was "interviewed" to see if she would be a good candidate for this program. Ms G[redacted] informed us that she would be a great candidate and it would only take her 6 sessions. This assured my wife and I that this would be an acceptable form of therapy, even if we saw a little progress. I have referenced the "interview" in my complaint and do not see a rebuttal related to this issue in her response.  I now believe the "interview" process is more of a deceptive business practice to receive our payment up front.
Ms G[redacted] also fails to mention that the sessions only included our 7 year old daughter and did not include my wife, [redacted]. If she would have allowed [redacted] into the sessions, she would have intervened and stated that she did not try 10 foods. The small handful of foods she did try were less then the size of a dime. My wife and I tried the positive reinforcement approach and where met with severe resistance each time. We both were involved in the process, although I did not attend the sessions because of a hectic work schedule.  The only resolution Ms G[redacted] offered was one extra session after the holidays. [redacted] did not want to cause a scene in front of our 7 year old daughter and upset our newborn who also accompanied my wife. [redacted] is very polite and responded with "Thank you" but did not accept the extra session.  I do not see that comment anywhere in Ms G[redacted]'s rebuttal. My wife and I are both in agreement that one extra session would not be of any assistance since there was zero progress between the first and sixth session. I understand the business policy NO REFUNDS as boldly pointed out in Ms G[redacted]'s response, however, I believe there were deceptive practices, especially the "interview" process, involved to gain our trust and business.
Regards,
[redacted]
