Have hired BDC in 2012 for various construction work. It has been 4 years now and they are still NOT finished with the project. They have dragged their feet for two years on the latest project. The owner, Susan H[redacted] has her husband Steven H[redacted] run the business because he (Steven) has been arrested several times in the past few years and the law will not issue a license to a felon. The latest arrest involved Steven driving drunk the wrong way on the highway and crashed into a police officer. He has been charged once again leaving his customers in limbo again.

[redacted] Contracted with us over a year ago, waiting on her complex to complete installation of new chimney caps. She had given us a $2000.00 deposit on a fireplace insert. Knowing...

the complex was months from completing task, we opted not to pre purchase insert. You only have so much time to install before warranty expires. Which I must say we made a good judgment call. The unit is no longer available, its been discontinued, so even if we purchased it, we would have no access to parts should the unit be faulty, not to mention should she incur future issues there would be no resolution for a unit that was a year old. I am attaching an email sent to [redacted], her unfair snap judgment of us in accurate and liable. We tried at no expense to her to get her a different unit, a unit of her choosing, and we would honor the same pricing even if the unit was more expensive. Her tone and her reasoning of backing out of a contract that was fully executed was irrational. She had requested her money back, which we fully intend on providing. I just didn't jump after her attack on my company as un trustworthy.

Review: On 10/**/13 I gave By Design a deposit of $2,000.00 (check #[redacted]) for an electric fireplace insert. I was convinced to give the deposit for a specific model even though By Design would not start the work until a new chimney cap replaced the dilapidated one currently existing. I live in a condominium complex and By Design did submit a quote for replacing all chimney caps in the complex. By Design was not awarded the contract and the chimney caps were replaced in September 2014. This created an awkward situation yet I immediately e-mailed By Design to let them know I was looking forward to the installation of the insert. After a second request for a response, I was informed that the model had been discontinued. It was never ordered.

I have since researched inserts and installed one for a fraction of the cost quoted By Design. I asked for a return of my deposit and was told that there was a three day cancellation policy so, "Technically they could hold a portion of the deposit for non cancellation past three days signing". By Design was not going to start the installation until after the replacement of the chimney caps...which was beyond both of our control since it was a board decision and By Design was not awarded the contract. I am contacting the Revdex.com because, on 10/**/14, I received a defensive email which ended, "[redacted]." I patiently waited since asking for the refund on 10/**/14 and now insist that I receive a full return of my deposit. Thank you.Desired Settlement: A return of my $2,000.00 deposit in full.
