Several months ago Byler Barns sold a building to [redacted]. She wanted us to finish out the inside for an office / dog area and picked out the paneling for the walls and ceiling. After talking to several supply companies who advised us not to use the material she chose because of warping issues,...

we found a better material. [redacted] said to go ahead and use the better material. After delivering the building (several weeks late due to waiting on her to get us some details for the interior) we realized we had forgotten a few items that were on the order for us to do. Also, she was not happy with the paneling. [redacted] wanted us to take the paneling out and replace it with the lesser quality paneling. We were not willing to go that route because of the compromise in quality and future problems it would bring. We offered several discount options along with refunding 100% of the deposit and returning the building. She declined all of these and has now said she will just live with the paneling. This has all taken several weeks in which we had not completed the missing items due to the fact of the building possibly being returned.  We are now in the process of taking care of the items we missed that were on the order. We told her we were coming out today and she said not to because of the snow and she would get back to us when the driveway is passible and she has made her final decision. We told her our next available opening is Wednesday and to let us know by Monday night.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Basically, Byler said they would NOT fix the paneling and the only option to resolve the matter would be for them to return the deposit. The problem with that is we ordered this building in NOVEMBER. It was supposed to be delivered in DECEMBER. It was delivered in FEBRUARY and to start all over again with another company, ordering another building, will put us another couple of MONTHS behind. So at this point we are simply keeping the building (which costs OVER $15K) because we have no other option that can work for us. Meanwhile, if we want the paneling fixed it will cost us $2,500 to pay a local contractor to fix it--not to mention the $5,200 we are being charged by Byler for paneling we don't want.
Below this email please find copies of the last two emails my husband sent to Byler.  This should explain our position and what's happened.Bottom line, we are keeping the building but we are certainly NOT satisfied nor do we consider this matter resolved.[redacted] Email From 2/10:Hello All,We received a call this morning from [redacted] basically stating that we could either return the building and you'd return our deposit or you would pay us $2,500 and we could pay the balance of the building in cash.I build brands for a living. I create the public perception of a product and company. This is what I've done for nearly 20 years. In addition, I have a customer base of over 200,000 small businesses and Entrepreneurs that have purchased products from my company. Which means, I've worked with many people in many different companies across many different categories. And at the end of the day, when I look at this purchase, I just don't get it.We drove over an hour and sat down in your showroom on TWO separate occasions to layout the specifics of this building. In addition, we showed you pictures of the paneling and my wife visited [redacted] to select the material. What arrived at our location is simply not what we ordered or agreed to. The paneling is wrong, there are no shutters and the cupola and weather vein are missing. So what would be a normal and appropriate response to this?Simple. The company comes out and fixes the problem. End of story. That's all we're asking. For you to come out and fix the problem. I don't want to return the building. I don't want to pay for the building upfront--had I wanted to do that I would have done that in the first place. And why in the world would I accept a $2,500 refund from you when I'm being charged over $5,000 for the work?Look, I'm an honest person. I operate out of integrity and I tend to expect and believe that others will, too. At this point you're not being reasonable or fair in what you're offering. We've already waited far longer for the building than expected and to finish it off will be several more weeks (electricity, flooring, painting, etc). We can't afford to start the process over and order another building. We need this building to work. We simply need you to send someone out to install the shutters, cupola and weather vein and to remove the paneling and install the correct style. Again, this shouldn't even be a conversation we're having--you should have already corrected this problem. It's just the right way to do business. Please remedy this by fixing these issues so we can all move on in an amicable way.Thank youEMAIL on 2/12:My wife let me know she received a call from [redacted] and that you guys weren't interested in communicating with me--as it's her name on the contract.[redacted] attempted to call [redacted] this morning, however, she was connected with voice mail. She asked me to contact you to relate where we stand.Like I said previously, we do NOT want to return the building. We started this process in November. We can't afford to wait another 3 or 4 months to have another building delivered from another company. At this point we're just going to have to live with a product that wasn't what we agreed on and make the best of it. We are still asking that you deliver and install the missing shutters, white trim, cupola and weather vein. Further, that you fix the door that won't latch properly and install the "stall door"  and board and baton siding outside of the puppy area to match the door. These are all things [redacted] has said you would fix. You leave us no choice but to come out of pocket to on the interior walls and ceiling and pay for a contractor to come out and fix the poor installation on those. Like I've explained, this building isn't a "shed" or "barn" to us. We are finishing out the space with carpet, painting, a heat/ac wall unit and nice furnishings. [redacted] mentioned it being used for "dogs". My wife is a breeder of designer mini-doodles. The reason she had the puppy area created inside the building is for when the new puppy parents come to see the puppy she can meet with them in her office and provide an area for them to sit and play with their new puppy. The puppies don't stay in the building--they stay inside our home. [redacted] is fanatical about cleanliness and part of her unique approach as a breeder is that the puppies are raised INSIDE our home and not in some backyard pen or barn--as many breeders do. You can see her website at www.MosaicMutts.comAnyway, my point is that everything that goes into this building was meant to be first class. This is why she's so upset with how the walls and ceiling look now. Because it's NOT a barn or shed to her--it's going to be her personal office and refuge and I want it to be really nice for her.Although I am disappointed in both the quality and service provided by Byler Barns it's not worth continuing to be upset over. Hopefully we can move past this, get the repairs and installation done that you said you would do and call it a day. Please call [redacted] to arrange a time to come out and complete the repairs and installation. Thanks

Review: I'm not sure who this should be directed to--so please see that it is forwarded to the right person.

We recently purchased a 12x26 building to be my wife's office--under the name [redacted].

(at a cost of $14K)

It was delivered yesterday.

To say we are disappointed is an understatement.

We drove from [redacted] to [redacted] twice--spending more than an hour each time--going over (in detail) the specs for the building.

In addition, we looked at pictures and discussed (at great length) the look and material she wanted for the walls and ceiling.

At this point the copula & weather vein is missing, the trim and shutters are missing and the walls look terrible. Nothing like she wanted.

This building was very important to my wife. She's been through substantial emotional turmoil over the last few months and this was the bright spot for her--knowing she would soon have her building (which was delivered much later than we were promised).

I am asking, politely, that you rectify this by replacing the paneling on the walls or paying for them to be replaced (we have a contractor here that can do it). But I don't expect to come out of pocket to correct this error. I already have costs for flooring, electricity and finishing the building (painting, etc). We paid to have the paneling installed and I was there on both occasions when we went over exactly how the paneling should look.

I don't want to return the building. I simply want what we paid for and agreed on.

I'm asking that you help us.Desired Settlement: I am asking, politely, that you rectify this by replacing the paneling on the walls or paying for them to be replaced (we have a contractor here that can do it).
