C & A General Contractors Reviews (%countItem)

The manager of this company overcharged for amount of work done compared to the quote he gave, and continued to charge as work was not getting done. He showed up when it was convenient for him. Did not finish electrical work on the house after last check was given to him. Still has not finished his work that he was paid to do. When questioned about amount charged he stated that he had his mortgage, child support, and his insurance to pay. He gave us a quote of $24,175 for total work done for the house and charged us $14,690 more than what was quoted for house repairs. He also over charged for the roofing done. He quoted $12,225 for roofing and overcharged $4,241. The manager, Charlie came back after not working in the house for 10 months wanting more money.

Dear ***:

In response to Revdex.com Inquiry on the captioned Complaint, I will respectfully respond to the customer's allegations of my faulty work and "over billing" for work THAT HAD BEEN COMPLETED. First, the customer alleges that I "over-charged" for work that was "included” in the initial quote. The fact of the matter is that the original quote WAS completed and, he, *** requested additional work OUTSIDE the original contract quote. I will be more specific:

The additional work that was CLEARLY requested by the customer was CLEARLY NOT a part of the original QUOTE. Specifically, the additional work that was requested WAS CLEARLY AGREED APON. This comprised of additional structural work in the basement, replacement of basement steps(structural support), additional labor required for removal of a third layer of roof shingie, replacement of all damaged decking of roof and extra disposal charges. It was made CLEAR to Miss *** that any damage that was not forseen (such as roof decking and third layer of roof shingles) was not forseeable prior to tearing and removing damaged wood, decking and the related disposal.

As with ANY "credible Contractor, I made it CLEAR to the customer that there may be addititonal charges and expenses for damages for additional work that was not foreseen until demolision was completed or the first layer(s) of roof were torn off and visible damage can be determined. ANY roofer will attest to these unforeseen items. The *** were made known as to the quality of my work prior to them hiring me. I invite ANY "reputable to inspect the the Nield's job and my work that I completed.

As for the electrical, the scope of the work requested was not the same scope of the work, specifically, additional electrical work to bring to code. There was knob and tube wiring that was in the entire house with the exception of the basement that was done by another electrical contractor. If anyone knows about knob and tube wiring, it is not accepted by the insurance industry nor does ANY elecrical contractors or inspectors want to deal with this or do replacement of. If you consult another "credible" contractor one would see the expense of doing an entire house that has knob and tube is EXTREMELY costly. My original scope of work was to replace recepticles, outlets and existing light switches and new main panel. To bring this home to code, additional feding of wires through walls that could not be removed was labor intensive and more costly. For instance, there was a new main panel surge protector device installed next to panel that was not part of the original work. Next, the customer wanted me to install ample lighting in basement area with LED bulbs along with addiitonal outlets. This resulted in additional running of electrical lines. In addition, the customer requested that I install new lines in the attic spaces with appropriate pull chain light fixtures. I also was asked to install additional(not replace) new GFI outlets on the exterior of the home. Next, the customer requested to hard wire all new cable, phone and computer lines throughout the house. Customer also requested new wiring layout for a new bathroom on first floor (outlets, shower light, closet light, sink lights along with the appropriate main lights. Let it be known I did not construct the bathroom as another contractor did that work. My scope was only electrical on that bathroom. AGAIN, NONE OF THIS WAS PART OF THE SCOPE OF THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE/WORK.

I will close my statement and regretfully regret to advise that I will not return ANY monies as the work was done correctly and in a timely fashion as the house was vacant and there were no time contraints required by the customer. They made it clear to me that there were no deadlines for completion! Note: As the ENTIRE project came to a halt due to their financial constraints that they made very clear to me along with other contarctors that were doing work at the same time, there was no work that was going to be done. The *** owed me $3,825. balance at that time which resulted in MANY attempts to collect.

Thanking you in advance for the opportunity to present my statement. I will not agree to return any monies to the ***. Again, I will invite any contractor to inspect my good work and my pricing.

Sincerely,

C&A GENERAL CONTRACTORS, INC.
