C&M was suppose to repair an alternator for our car. After they collected their payment, we found out the alternator was still not repaired.
My husband and I dropped off our 2009 Nissan Murano on August 13th, 2013 to a mechanic in Richmond, Ky. Our plan was to pay him to take out the alternator, we would then pick it up and take it to C&M in Lexington to have it repaired. After it was repaired, we would take it back to the mechanic to have it put back in. The mechanic in Richmond charged us $180.00 to do his part of taking it out and putting it back in. Over the phone the guy at C&M said he would charge us anywhere from $60-$80 to repair the alternator. on August 14, 2013 we dropped off the alternator to C&M. He said he would not be able to have it repaired until the next day, so we left. A couple hours later, he called us back and said he was in fact able to have it fixed today, however, it was in such bad shape that he was going to charge us $90.00 instead of what he had originally quoted us (which was fine, we were just happy that it was going to be fixed at this point). So we went and picked it back up, and dropped it off to the mechanic in Richmond and told him to call us when it was done. A couple hours later the mechanic called us and told us the alternator was back in the car, however it was still not repaired. My husband called C&M and told them that the alternator was still not repaired. The guy responded with " it was working when it left here". My husband let the mechanic talk to C&M on the phone so that he could explain to him that the alternator was in fact not repaired, and the guy said "well I replaced the barrings", a man in the background said " no we did not replace the barrings on that nissan's alternator". This made it very clear that we paid him to do a job and he did not do it or stand by his services. Not only did we lose the $90 that we paid them to fix it, we were out $180 for the mechanic to pull it out and put it back in. The guy at C&M said if we brought the alternator back to him that he would fix it "again", but would not pay for the labor that we are having to pay to have it taken in and out, or refund our money. I understand him not wanting to pay for the labor the first time around, but now we are going to have to pay another $180 because he did not do his part of fixing it in the first place. I am not a business person by any means, I am simply a nurse. But I am able to recognize when someone is doing bad business. I would personally feel responsible and feel bad if I charged someone money to fix something and then it not work. I don't understand how these people do not feel responsible.
