C N C Lawn Care Reviews (2)

Review: I purchased a deal from CNC Lawn Care that included mulch, labor for installing mulch, garden edging, and lawn mowing. [redacted] (owner) was quick to respond to my call about the Big Deal he was offering, and showed up the next day to do measurements on my yard for mulch quantity. Having recently moved to this home, I didn't think that the 2 cubic yards offered in the deal would be enough to cover my yard, but wanted to get an estimate. (I estimated 3 yards would cover it, based on the fact that the gardens here are very similar in size to my last home.) We discussed which beds would be covered, and the color of mulch I preferred.[redacted]s mulch estimate came back at 6 total yards (@$70/yard). This seemed like way too much mulch to me, and frankly, was outside my budget, so I asked [redacted] to bring out the 2 yards included in the deal, along with 1 extra for a total of 3 cubic yards. The day he (and his associate) showed up to install the mulch, I immediately noticed that they brought the wrong color of mulch. I was disappointed, but in an effort to make his life easier, I didn't make too big a deal about it, and accepted what was brought. We spent some time walking the perimeter of my yard, so that I could point out a couple areas that I wanted to be treated with extra care. For instance, we had some tomatoes growing in the garden, along with a new border of coral bells that I did not want sprayed or pulled. They went about their business, pulling weeds and spreading mulch for about an hour and half, and things seemed to be going ok, and I had to leave for a meeting. I talked to [redacted] before leaving, again emphasizing that I didn't want my gardens sprayed with a broad leaf killer, and he assured me that his spray "only kills weeds." (As a gardener, I know such a product does not exist, but assumed he was spraying some sort of pre-emergent that would not affect thriving plants - he is, after all, a professional landscaper.)After being gone for several hours, I returned home to find they had completed the work and left. (They had not mowed the lawn, which was included in the Deal, but they said they would be sending a crew for that as soon as they had availability.) I walked around my yard, to inspect the work. The mulch was not installed neatly - sort of thrown here and there - up to 8 inches thick in places. However, I was happy to see that the 3 cubic yards covered all of my beds (interesting, considering the estimate they provided was for 6 yards. I suspect this was their attempt to upsell me a product I didnt need.)However, to my horror, while doing the walk-through I discovered that many of my plants had been sprayed or trampled, and were already starting to die (including the tomato plants we had specifically discussed "DO NOT SPRAY"). An ENTIRE BORDER of coral bells had been removed and was no where to be found. A couple hostas were wilting to their death. I discovered some hostas that were completely buried under mulch, and were curled up as if they had been sprayed. FAST FORWARD 2 WEEKS: Plants are inexplicably dying in my yard. A sizable bunch of irises (handed down from my great grandmother) have completely died - presumably from being sprayed. Or mulched to death? Who knows. I have now counted 10 coral bells, 11 hostas, a peony, and tomato plant amongst the dead. I am sick about it. I wish I had "before" pictures to show the shocking difference in my gardens. I discussed all this damage in detail with [redacted], and he apologized profusely, even offering to pay for the damaged plants - and indicated that he had fired the man responsible for the damage. He requested that I send him an invoice, which I did. That was on 5/20/13. I was very lenient with the invoice, considering that since sending it, more plants have died, and also, I did not invoice him for my time/labor in shopping for and putting all these plants into the ground (a significant amount of time!). He acknowledged the invoice, but as of today, I have not received a check. Also, my lawn has still not been mowed as promised. (3 months have now passed) There was definitely no "edging" provided with the service either. I guess I should have realized that this Deal was too good to be true from the beginning. I have already started trying to repair the damage in my yard by replacing plants, and would like to be reimbursed accordingly. It is shocking to me that a "landscaping" company would hire someone that could do this much damage in one day. I only hope he was fired before he damaged other people's yards in this same way. What a disappointing experience.Desired Settlement: Reimbursement for damaged plants, and for not finishing the job as stated in the contract - total of $195
