rental of cottage at Emerald Isle from Prudential Sun Surf Realty of Emerald Isle.
We rented a cottage from Prudential Sun Surf Realty of Emerald Isle, the week of 9-8 through 9-15. When we arrived at the property we saw the cottage was extremely dirty and later, after unpacking all of our belongings, noted some safety concerns. Because we were very tired and it was after office hours, we waited until the next day to visit the real estate office to air our problems concerning the cottage. We wanted to know if we had any other options, we were told by an agent on duty that we had none. We told him about the dirty conditions and the safety issues. He replied that the particular property owners had their own cleaning team and that the Sun Surf did not inspect the property for any reason. We left thinking we could leave and lose our money that we had paid to the company or stay and clean what we could. My daughter and I refused to use the showers in the house, they were quite grimey, so we had to shower outside wearing our bathing suits as the shower didn't have any enclosure. The boards of the decking were in terrible condition, posing a safety issue. Also, there were soft spots in the kitchen flooring which we thought someone could have fallen through. We sent 2 letters to the company while we were still in Emerald Isle stating our concerns, neither were answered. We feel that we should have had the option of moving into another property or receiving a refund. We were not given any options other than staying in this disgusting property or leaving and losing our payment of $2,250.00 plus $250.00 for vacation insurance in case of emergencies.
