I contracted [redacted] (XXX-XXX-XXXX, Land Tex Lic) to replace my old concrete front porch with a new one. In addition, he was supposed to lay out regular blue thermo-treated flagstones. The stones came in different sizes and I wanted them laid out in a random pattern. To help [redacted], I gave him three picture which showed different random patters.When I returned the flagstones were arranged in regular pattern and also laying face down. [redacted] said that his expert said the smooth size should face up, when in fact the thermo-treated (rougher side) should be face up. I removed all stones and laid them with the correct side down and in a true random pattern (generated by a computer). I also gave [redacted] two hard copies of the stone layout, where all different stone sizes were color coded. The next day, [redacted] not only changed the pattern but most stones had uneven distance between them and one stone was higher than the others. I called him and requested a meeting before he would continue. [redacted] told me that yes we made a mistake when we removed some stones we did not know how to put them correctly back in place (well he had two hardcopies with the layout). Thus my requested pattern was not done and several new spaces between stones occurred for which stones will have to be cut. [redacted] met me and his master, the person who thought me everything. We discussed what changes are needed, i.e. removing stones to break up the too regular pattern and correct the distance among flagstones. The next day, things got even worse, two stones where mortar in upside down and more stones where laid down with uneven distances to each other (despite the fact that spacers are laying around). I called [redacted] and told him that this is a mess and needs to be fixed. I used a chalk and wrote directly on each stones what would need to be fixed.The next day, I saw [redacted] using a hand held circular saw (no stone wet saw) while he was trying to correct the uneven distances and cutting stones.As it turn out all cuts and the cut stones have uneven edges! He also cut apparently accidently into already laid stones, and of course the whole place is very dusty. The stones he cut to place into the gaps are too small. [redacted] devastated flagstone worse over $1000. Throughout the whole process I took pictures to document the development. As I see it, all flagstones and their mortar need to be removed, the porch concrete surface needs to be newly prepared and even out, and then new flagstones lay out. Two days ago I called [redacted] several times and left messages on his machine to please call me back, but so far no response.
