After a bad hail storm in the summer, C&S Remodeling replaced the siding, gutters / downspouts and shutters for us. In general, the siding and shutters are OK, but we are extremely unsatisfied with one piece of the gutter.

When the worker replaced that piece of gutter, from my eye level, the slope was too large, so I noted that to him. He said the slope is within the correct range, and because I was not 100% sure of my observation, I could not say anything more at that time. Afterwards, I did some research online and found that the slope range should be between 1/4 inch and half inch for 10 feet. Since the other four pieces of gutter looked good, I used those as guidelines to roughly measure the slopes and showed the result to Eddie, one of the owners of C&S. He told me that slope cannot be measured that way. To prove the slope is out of range, several days later I bought a 20-foot transparent plastic pipe with an internal size of 3/8, and measured the slope when the outside temperature was above 50 (so that I can ignore the surface tension of water). The result surprised me. It is about 1.5 inches for about 14 feet, which is almost double of the standard! I immediately told Eddie the result, but he did not believe the result. Then I suggested that 1) We can measure the slope together by blocking the exit of the gutter and filling the gutter with enough water; Or 2) He can use his long level to get a relatively accurate slope. He did not say no but did not do anything. Before I gave Eddie the AAA check, I asked him to correct the problem. He simply said he cannot “because that will break the city code”. However, I was positive that the slope was way too large so I argued with him on this issue. Eventually he agreed that the slope may be wrong, but he said that was not his problem and “that is a structure problem”. Since I was extremely serious and wanted to make sure the slope is really out of the correct range, I bought a set of line levels to measure it again. With a line level with different marks, I found the slope is approximately at 1/8 line and this corresponds to 1/8 inch for one foot. To make sure the result is correct, I also calibrated the line level and 1/8 mark really showed a slope of 1/8 inch for one foot.

We used c & s remodeling back in August we absolutely love our new roof and couldn't be happier they were very thorough and finished in a day ! Loved them so much we referred out neighbor and they got a new roof as well
