Review: STATEMENT OF [redacted]

IN THE MATTER OF A COMPLAINT TO THE

Revdex.com OF NEW YORK

RE: C. STAKER REMODELING, LICENSE [redacted]

During the period July-Aug 2012, Mr. Christopher S[redacted], d/b/a C. Staker Remodeling Inc., Suffolk County License #[redacted], installed a roof upon my single family, wood frame home in [redacted].

Mr. S[redacted] completely removed the two existing roof layers and took the roof down to the plywood. He then replaced 13 sheets of plywood and installed felt as an underlayment. He then installed GAF Timberline Architectural Shingles (which have a 30 year warranty).

I had advised Mr. S[redacted] the primary reason for this roof installation was due to a leak in the rear of my house. This leak evidenced itself in my kitchen area. During the course of the removal/replacement of plywood on the roof, Mr. S[redacted] advised me he had located the source of the leak and the whole area was replaced with new plywood..

Upon completion of the roof installation, Mr. S[redacted] and an assistant unbuttoned my vinyl siding on the rear of my home and showed me where the roof look was tracking down behind my siding.

His final statement to me was “[redacted], this will never leak again!”

The work was completed and Mr. S[redacted] was paid in full- in cash- as per contract in August 2012.

Hurricane Sandy then occurred in October 2012 and the roof performed flawlessly- there were no leaks. If there was a leak of any type, it should have evidenced itself during this storm.

In January 2014, while I was in Florida attending a funeral- my daughter contacted me and advised that the leak in my home had started again- in the same place as the original leak- before Mr. S[redacted] installed the new roof.

I contacted Mr. S[redacted] from Florida and he came to my home in my absence. He performed a repair and said that a “tree branch from Hurricane Sandy had put a hole in my roof”. He said that he performed a repair and it was “good to go”. I was not present for this visit and took him at his word.

Mr. S[redacted] knows I have disabilities and am unable to climb up onto my roof to inspect it, no less perform any form of repair myself.

However, in the above repair which he performed in January 2014, it should be noted that Hurricane Sandy occurred in October, 2012. Is it reasonable that a tree branch from Hurricane Sandy put a hole in the roof and it was undetected for 14 months?

In October 2014, the same leak occurred again in the same exact place. I contacted Mr. S[redacted] and he advised me that it was now due to a siding leak and in one of his e-mails offered to give me an estimate for siding! The siding on my home is Georgia-Pacific vinyl siding and is less than 10 years old!

I advised Mr. S[redacted] that I believed it was still a roof related leak and given that he had performed a repair in Jan 2014, I would at least like him to come by and check to see if that repair he made was still intact.

Mr. S[redacted]’s response on October **, 2014 was “I have 20 houses on my schedule in Center Moriches, when I wrap them up I will come by and see what needs to be done”.

I have not heard from his since.

I offer the following in response to his “siding leak“ theory:

If the true cause of my leak was a siding leak all along as Mr. S[redacted] now suggests- then why did it stop leaking after he installed the new roof?

If a tree branch had penetrated and made a hole in my roof during Hurricane Sandy in Oct. 2012, why did it not start leaking again until Jan 2014?

I had hoped to continue to deal with Mr. S[redacted] in a cordial and business-like manner, but unfortunately he appears more interested in selling me siding- rather than curing the original problem for which he was hired and paid.

Signed
