C. Stefano Custom Tailoring

On September 23, 2013, I took a newly purchased jacket and pair of double-layer chiffon-style dress slacks for alterations in order to wear to my sons wedding in October, 2013. The jacket required alterations and the slacks needed hemmed to wear with dress heel shoes. The charge was $160.00 for both ($80 each). He requested half and gave me a COD slip for the balance with a pick-up date of Wednesday, October 16, 2013. He had me try on the entire outfit with the shoes and he marked the slacks with white tailor's chalk.

When I picked them up on Wednesday, October 16th and tried on the entire outfit, I noticed the inner layer (under the see-through chiffon) of the left leg of the slacks was noticeably shorter than the other. He got down on the floor and tugged at it and said he marked only one leg and hemmed them both up two inches and it's shorter because the pants were made in China. I asked why he doesn't measure the slacks to make sure they are the same length while they are hemming them or measure from the inseam down and he said that's not how he does it, that he measures from the bottom up and again mentioned the problem was because the slacks are made in China. (FYI the tag on the slacks reads "made in Sri Lanka")

I told him I was not happy with the slacks and should not have to pay for the work and he said it's not his fault, they always do excellent work and again said it's because the slacks were made in China. I needed the jacket for the wedding, so I paid the balance so he would give it to me and I left. When I got home I also noticed the chiffon-like outer layers are not cut straight and neither one match the other. I had to go out and buy a pair of plain black pants since I did not have time in two days to find a seamstress that would hem a pair of dress slacks in time for the wedding.
