CWClark Plumbing was called to the customer's home after their basement had flooded several times during the heavy rains that the area experienced this spring/summerThe customer wanted my advice on what could be done to solve the constant
water problem in the basementUpon arrival at the customer's home I found three working sump pumps in the basementThat should have been the customer's first clue that this house had prior water problemsThe customer accompanied me to locate where the discharge piping was located on the outside of the houseTwo discharges terminated close to the foundation and therefore the water was running back into the basementThe third discharge ran 80' UPHILL into the backyardTherefore, it too was running back into the basement
I laid out a plan for him to combine the two discharges and run it to the north of his house and suggested he leave an opening for his neighbor to tie into alsoI personally knocked on the neighbor's door and spoke to him about my plan for the third discharge and he did not have a problem with that since it was on the garage side of his homeI temporarily routed the backyard discharge to the front of the house using PVC piping laid on top of the groundI did not glue the PVC because this was only a temporary fix, when the rains stopped a trench needed to be dug to bury this pipe
I had no idea that the customer did not keep an eye on this temporary fix and that with the next rain he had another problemHe did not call to say he had a problemNot until we called to get billing information did the customer complain about my work
I billed him for my time which was more than minutes but less than an hour and material used
