Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/12/14) */
8/13 [redacted] asked for tune-up and to check noise in engine compartment. Upon performing the tune-up, we found that there was a noise coming from the catalytic converter. We informed her that she will need to replace the catalytic converter parts...

soon and also gave [redacted] an estimate for the cost of repair for quality original manufacture parts. [redacted] acknowledged, but did not ask to replace the catalytic converter at this time. We only replaced spark plug and air filter, which cannot cause the car to lose significant power at high speed.
8/18 When [redacted] brought the car back to recheck the tune-up, we carefully examined the tune-up and found that everything was fine. We also noticed a cracked intake boot, which was not causing any problems yet, but we recommended replacement as preventative measure and [redacted]'s husband understood and agreed. We only charged for the intake boot part, without any labor charges. If something was wrong with the tune-up, the car would show problems with driving even at low speeds on city streets right awaybut [redacted]'s car drove fine on the city streets. Also, the engine light was on at this time and engine code read 'p0300', which indicates a 'random misfire' that could be caused by many things including vacuum leak, faulty ignition system, or bad fuel control system among many other reasons and would require further diagnosisall NOT caused by tune-up. We offered to reschedule to further analyze the problem, but [redacted]'s husband declined.
8/24 [redacted] brought her car to Discount Muffler for diagnosis. Discount Muffler shop replaced Dianas' car's catalytic converters, which were causing the problem at high speeds, but not our tune-up parts meaning that the tune-up was done correctly. Discount Muffler shop may have misinformed [redacted] or [redacted] failed to mention to Discount Muffler that we had already informed her of the suspected catalytic converter damage issue on 8/13. Regardless, the tune-up was done correctly and did NOT cause her already failing catalytic converter to cause issues (exhaust system restriction or blockage).
We provide good service and deserve payment for the services rendered. If you have any questions and clarifications needed, please contact me via email or phone.
*Attached is the chargeback response to credit card company, which includes greater detail to the statements above.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 8, 2015/12/18) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept the response from the business because my car was running fine prior to doing the tune-up and replacing the spark plugs. Upon leaving his shop, [redacted] told me that the car will be running smoother and saving gas, but this was to the contrary. I took the car back to [redacted] a second time with the check engine light on and with the car losing significant power, struggling, and needing hard acceleration. [redacted] informed me over the phone that he is going to put a "different" set of spark plugs inmeaning something was wrong with the first set of spark plugs he installed. If the problem was the catalytic converter, why did he change out the spark plugs the second time when I brought the car back? This was done to cover up the damage that was done to the catalytic converter, which was caused by the improper installation of the spark plugs or the faulty spark plugs itself. [redacted] turned off the check engine light after leaving his shop for the second time; however, the light came back on after I left his shop and I continued to experience the same problems with my car losing power, struggling, and hard acceleration.
With the check engine light on and the same symptoms, I took my car to Discount Muffler. [redacted], the owner pulled the diagnostic code and told me that the car misfired causing the check engine light to come on. [redacted] told me to take the car back to [redacted] and have him fix the spark plugs. [redacted] later informed me that the catalytic converter is clogged and burned out. I approved the repair for the catalytic converter which costed $800.00.
I am requesting a full refund from Jet-Sen Auto and this is my middle ground because I ended up spending another $800.00 for the damages caused by Jet-Sen Auto.
Please don't hesitate to contact [redacted] at Discount Muffler for more information. Additionally, this article http://www.ehow.com/facts_XXXXXXX_symptoms-incorrectly-gapped-spark-plugs.html explains all the symptoms my car was experiencing after taking my car to Jet-Sen Auto.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2016/01/03) */
Before proceeding further, we need a direct answer from [redacted]. Please have [redacted] verify that she received a recommendation from me after completing the initial tune-up that there was a problem with the catalytic converter because of the rattling noise and we advised her to replace it soon. This recommendation was also documented on invoice # XXXXX lower left corner.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2016/01/06) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
My car was running fine prior to [redacted] working on my car. [redacted] from the Bureau of Automotive Repair is the assigned investigator for this case. He is scheduled to visit both shops to get a better picture of what happened. This is a more efficient approach to coming to a resolution because we have someone who is knowledgeable in car repair practices.
