Calder House Inn Reviews (1)

The innkeeper was not present at the agreed upon checkin time, causing me to seek other accommodations. A refund was promised and then not delivered. First Contact via phone on Thursday September 4th. -Room rates discussed and she asked for the whole weeks money up front via online bank transfer-Staying September 8 to 11Sent $340 via online transfer on Friday September 5th The transfer was accepted on September 6th and she called me.-We made a verbal agreement of arrival time on September 8th between 6-7pm-No cell number was provided for contact, house phone onlyArrived September 8th at 630pm. I knocked on the door and rang the bell numerous times. I also called and left a message. I waited outside 20mins for someone to come home. As I had no way to contact her to see when she would come home, I booked myself into a hotel out of fear of having no place to stay. After checking into a hotel I called again at 704pm and she answered the phone. She proceeded to tell me, they had just rushed home as I was supposed to arrive at 730pm. After checking her notes she agreed that she had made a mistake, apologized for not being there and agreed to refund my money. On September 9th I sent an email asking for the refund to be sent, just incase she no longer had my email address and received no response. On September 10th, I stopped by the house at approximately 130pm and meet her face to face for the first time. She explained to me she could not issue a refund at that time as she did not have any money with which to do so. But after people checked in that night she would have money for me. She did not explain why they did not have to pay upfront. She told me she could not issue a refund via online banking due to problems with PST and I would have to come back for cash. [redacted] she no longer claimed I was supposed to arrive at 730.The evening of September 10th, I tried calling her twice, at 930pm and at 10pm. At 10 she answered and we spoke briefly. She was still expecting new guests who would pay her that night, then she would deposit the money in the morning and pay me via interact. There was no mention of pst issues. Or I could come by in the morning to get the cash as she was going to be up at 430am.As my plans had changed and I had to leave town that evening, I went to the business at 10:30 pm and asked for the money. The guests had still has not arrived and she had no money. She explained to me my arrival time was supposed to be 6ish pm on the 8th and so I was the one who was late [redacted]. I told her wanted the refund via interact by noon on September 11 or I was contacting the Revdex.com. [redacted]Desired SettlementI wish to have my $340 refunded as she was unable to provide to promised service at the agreed upon time.Business Response [redacted] made a booking with us and would not indicate his expected time of arrival. We had [redacted] watch the door for his arrival. He never arrived. He indicated later by phone he actually already had a place booked besides us with a "friend"We have a cancellation policy which he refused to accept after the fact.[redacted]Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)"[redacted] made a booking with us and would not indicate his expected time of arrival."I indicated my arrival time of 6-7pm during our phone conversation on the evening of September 6, 2014 . This conversation was witnessed by my girlfriend and I further communicated my arrival time to project co-ordination in the office as I they like to keep track of my travel plans. "We had [redacted] watch the door for his arrival. He never arrived."Mr [redacted] has never been mentioned in any phone, in person or email communication between the Calder House and I before this point. If he was watching the house on September 8th he did not do a good job, as I spent 20 minutes, beginning at 630pm, sitting on the front porch of the house waiting for someone to come home. This was after knocking on the door multiple times and leaving a voicemail saying I was out front. During this 20 minutes I communicated via text message to family and friends that I was stuck outside of the Inn I had booked a reservation at. [redacted] "He indicated later by phone he actually already had a place booked besides us with a "friend"Although I do have friends in Saskatoon I was not comfortable asking any of them for a place to stay. After leaving the Calder House due to nobody being home, I drove to the [redacted] on *th street and check in as a walk-in with no prior reservation. [redacted] "We have a cancellation policy which he refused to accept after the fact."We spoke on the phone the evening of September 8th after I had checked into the [redacted] and she admitted that she made a mistake regarding my arrival time and agreed to refund my money. This was as close as the Calder House came to telling me about there cancellation policy. What is the aforementioned policy? Does it say that I forfeit payment for an entire weeks stay if I did not "show up" on the first night? [redacted]In conclusion the Calder House's response in no way addresses my request for a refund. Even if I had not shown up the first night, which I most definitely did, there response does not explain why I could not / have not been refunded for the rest of the week. Therefore I still wish for my $340 to be refunded.
