Initial Business Response /* (1000, 11, 2016/08/11) */
This particular child was enrolled in our preschool by his mother and grandmother. He was enrolled in the Tot's class, as he was nonverbal and not potty trained. We immediately began working with the child to help him express himself in a...

socially acceptable manner and to alleviate his persistent biting of peers and teachers. We notified his mother of our concerns and recommended the family enlist the services of "Bringing out the Best," a free service offered to families and schools to help children express themselves in positive manners. We moved a teacher to work one-on-one with the child so she could intervene before he bit. We established a plan with the mother after the child bit 10 times that she would need to pick him up from school immediately. Following that, we informed the mother that three more biting incidents would involve removal from school until he could handle his anger in an acceptable manner. Other children were afraid of him and parents expresses significant concern. Before the Easter holiday, he bit for the third time. We asked his mother to use the holiday to work with him and we would give him another chance. (Two children required medical care due to their bites). We needed to ask the child to leave the school the last week of April when he bit again. We informed the mother that the family needed to follow up with "Bringing our the Best," which they had not done previously, and when biting was no longer an issue we would be happy to welcome him back.
Earlier, in January 2016, when the mother registered for the upcoming 2016/17 school year, she requested that Michael be placed in a five-day, three-year old class. She was informed that we did not feel that this was an appropriate placement since he was still not potty trained and was nonverbal. She was told the two-year old class was the better placement for the child's social, emotional, and developmental level. She agreed to this placement. In late April, when we needed to ask the child to leave the preschool, we expressed to the mother that we hoped he would reenroll the next year upon successful completion of "Brining out the Best" and resolving his biting issues. At that time the mother stated the child would not be returning because he needed full-time daycare.
At that point, we terminated the draft for the September tuition and issued a refund for the May tuition. However, since the school's contract, signed by both parties, clearly states that the registration fee is nonrefundable, it was not refunded.
The preschool director never received a phone call from the grandfather and has never spoken with him. She left over ten messages for the grandmother and she never returned a call. The preschool director did speak with the mother and attempted to explain the policy. She said it did not matter as her father wanted the $100 nonrefundable deposit back. Their contract had been signed 01/07/2016 and returned with the registration fee. On 4/29/16 the mother sent an email to the preschool director stating that her son would not return the following year, so this was her choice and not the school's.
The mother never communicated with the Head of School. The grandfather did call one time and spoke with the Head of School. The grandfather stated that May tuition had not been reimbursed, when in fact it had been. I, the Head of School, informed him of that fact, but clearly stated that in accordance with their contract their $100 registration fee would not be refunded. I had no further contact with the grandfather or anyone else in the family, and received no further attempts at communication of any sorts from them.
The grandfather states in his complaint to the Revdex.com that May tuition was not refunded, when in fact it was. He also states that his wife contacted me, which she did not. Nor did he attempt to follow up with me.
