California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants Reviews (%countItem)

I have been trying to get my medical assistant recertification processed with CCBMA. I first sent in my documents with $150 dollar payment to them in April 2019. They sent me an email to let me know that I was missing CE's according to their requirements. I faxed more documents with proof of my CE's. They said that CE's were still missing and that I could purchase CE's through them to make up for what I was lacking. I said no thanks because I believe that I have enough through continuing educations I have completed through my job. I fax more CE's and call them back. They said I am still missing CE's. I am feeling a bit frustrated because they make me fill out a form every time and if its not filled out correct they tell me to fax back filled out. But every time I fill out and indicate what category the CE should be they will re categorize CE's to another way. I let them know that this is really frustrating and I seem to never be able to put CE's in the right category. They say its okay and they know that its really confusing. I send in another fax with more CE's. They leave me a message to call them back. I call them back today 7/22/19 and they just tell me that I am still missing CE's. I request for them to send me an email with the explanation of why they still are saying I am missing CE's and copy of all the faxes I have sent in. The lady I spoke to also said that she left me a message a month ago and I am just barely calling back. I explain that I do have a job and busy life and this is when I have had time to call back. She answers, well I have a job too. I state again, please just send me the email that I have requested. She says that she needs to speak to somebody before she can let me know if she can do that. I explain that I cannot wait anymore as I am on lunch break and need to go back to work. She puts me on hold anyways. As of now that I am typing this I have not received the email with information I have requested. It feels as if they will always say I have CE's missing to force me to buy CE's from them in addition to the $150 processing fee I have already paid. I have not been able to resolve this issue on my own and the people that I speak to are not really making it clear how they are designating the CE's into categories. They dont always send me emails to explain why they are denying the CE's I have sent do not qualify. The way they are denying makes it seem as if they force people to purchase CE's through them to get recertified, even if the CE's one turns in would be enough in order to make more money. Difficult to understand, confusing to figure out, almost scamming people of money.

First and foremost, CCBMA does not ask for anything of an applicant that is not asked of each and every recertification applicants. After an extensive review of *** recertification application, it was found to be lacking in the CEU's (Continuing Education Units) need to obtain her recertification as a medical assistant.

4/25/19 Her application was received in our office (payment was NOT included with the application).

4/29/19 office left a voicemail regarding the payment of $150 that needed to be paid.

5/6/19 The recertification department reached out to *** via email regarding the missing payment and that the application was missing the documentation sheet that was provided with the application.

5/9/19 received the payment. Application is now being reviewed and it is still missing the required "legal" documentation sheet.

5/16/19 office received a call from *** regarding the status of her application. It was explained to her during that phone conversation that she would be required to provide the documentation sheet with all her CEU's listed (that she wanted to be considered towards her recertification). At that time being deferred was discussed.

5/28/19 Application was deferred.

5/31/19 an email was sent to *** informing her that her application is being deferred (NOT DENIED) because she is lacking 4 basic and 8 in any category.

6/26/19 *** sent more credits (some of which were duplicates of what had already been provided to office) after further review she had provided documents for CEU's not on the documentation sheet. The proof need to complete the application was highlighted, scanned and emailed to ***.

6/28/19 emailed *** again regarding the information that needed to be provided.

6/28/19 Recertification Department received a call from ***. She was not happy about having to provide more documentation. She was not very nice to staff and said that they did not know what they were doing. The call was given to the Executive Director. She went over the recertification process. At that time, she was also informed that *** had incorrectly categorized many of the credits. She was also told that SHE DOES NOT HAVE TO PURCHASE CEU FROM US. SHE CAN LOOK ELSE WHERE BUT SHE HAD TO KEEP IN MIND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE RELEVANT TO MEDICAL ASSISTING. Ms. Mendoza still was not happy with the outcome of that conversation.

7/8/19 Recertification Department reached back out to *** regarding missing items.

7/22/19 Received call from *** regarding the voicemail left on 7/8/19. She said "I'm done with you and that she needed us to do our job". She was referred back to the Executive Director but hung up.

We have tried working with *** but she does not that. CCBMA is an organization that provides certification and recertification through eligibility. Again nothing has been asked of *** that is not asked of other recertification applicants. She has only been deferred and can provide the requested documents. There are no refunds given for recertification applications as stated on page 2 of the application and on our website.

Customer Response • Jul 23, 2019

I am rejecting this response because:

After reviewing their document it has a few messages that are written that are stated to discredit me and paint me out to seem like I am just a disgruntled person.

Firstly, I did not include payment with the application, because on said application there is a check box to have them call you back to provide payment information, which is what I did.

Secondly, I am a customer attempting to retain my certification through means of recertification. Every time I have called them to discuss any question I had or to see if they received the fax I had sent they would always remind me that since 5/31/19 my certification was expired and if I was okay with that, and that I could pay an extra fee to expedite the process. Whenever I have asked them to explain to me in detail why my CE's where not being accounted for they were not able to explain themselves clearly. They would leave me a message on voicemail only saying that I needed to call them back. Is it not my right to ask for explanations if I think something is not clear and is it not for them to be able to explain how that works. Which is why on the last phone call I asked them to send me a email with the response she gave me over the phone because it all started to be really confusing with how they are counting CE's.

I still need to have my recertification completed. They still have not told me in which category the CE's are missing. At this point after all this I am worried that they will not be willing to complete this recertification even though I have sent in all my paperwork in retaliation.

I have attached copies of the forms I filled out and on some forms they wrote in red pen their response. I do not see that any of those dates are repeated as they are claiming in their response. I have also included the application sheet so that you can see that there is a check box to have them call you to process payment which is what I did.

Sincerely
