California Closet Company, Inc. (Maryland) Reviews (%countItem)

I had a closet installed in July 2018. The are many issues which are discussed below.
This business transaction has been mismanaged throughout the process. The closet designer was rude and insulting, and also mis-measured the space. The intallers altered the plan without my knowledge to accommodate the measurement error. The installers made additional errors which generated numerous areas to be re-done. I was accidentally made aware of the installation alterations weeks later. Some of the items ordered were either not received or not what was ordered per the contract. At the fourth visit, one of the owners sat down in an attempt to remedy the situation. At that time I notified him of language used in my home from the installer, referring to a female designer. The installer's reference to this person included the "C" word. I am unsure of what transpired after that time. We discussed all of the additional issues and agreed to a fee adjustment, which I agreed to pay at that time. The owner, Mr. Scott M felt that he wanted to hide some of the flaws, and offered a fifth visit. He promised to complete the task in a timely fashion as well as supply numerous items. The designer who came for the fifth visit was not made aware of the six items that were to arrive. Two of the six items were received and installed. Due to the continued mismanagement and additional stress, I requested an additional price adjustment. I offered to discuss via telephone with numerous upper management individuals. This has been declined. I feel that due to the continued inability to complete this transaction efficiently, cordially, and correctly, the balance needs to be adjusted to zero. This has truly been the worst transaction I have been involved in.

Desired Outcome

Due to California Closets absolute inability to manage this transaction, I would like all fees due to be adjusted to zero. I previously offered to pay a portion of the balance due, which has been declined. The administrative staff is unwilling to discuss further.

California Closet Company of Maryland Response • Dec 19, 2018

Customer signed contract with our representative on 6/20/18.
Installation of master closet and reach in closets were on 7/26/18.
There were some issues that were addressed after the installation. Customer was not satisfied with the installation of the crown molding, some shelving that was chipped, and some spots on the walls were marked by installers working in the space.
We addressed these issues and scheduled to come back to solve those issues on 8/4/18. At this time we replaced the crown and base molding, install drawer faces, and replaced shelving that was designated as damaged.
At this time, we had satisfied the original contract, and we should have been paid for our work.
The customer then decided, after the work we had agreed upon to complete and to satisfy the contract, that there were more things that she was not happy with.
On 8/14/18, I personally went to the customer's home and sat down to discuss her concerns, and believed expectations. Upon this meeting ending, I gave the customer two options. We would take out all the pieces she wanted to see manufactured differently, or we would leave them and discount the job based on the cost of replacement.
After about a week's time, the customer decided on leaving the materials as they were originally installed, and we offered to add some new materials to the system, at our cost, to make the situation better. The customer agreed to leaving the system as is, adding the new materials, and agreed to pay us for half of the remaining balance. Total contract was $8315.00 Deposit paid was $2735.00. We agreed that the remaining cost for the project would $2790.00, and we would discount her side $2790.00.
From 8/14/18 through 9/10/18 we had to wait for our vendor to provide the glass materials needed to satisfy our agreement. During this time period, the customer became upset that the job was not complete and demanded that we remove the balance due to us, and just give her a free closet system due to the fact that we had not scheduled a return date and that we did not have the materials from our vendor. We disagreed with this and said that we would finish the project as discussed and agreed upon when the materials arrived.
Communication between the customer and us completely stopped for almost 6 weeks after continuous efforts by our sales manager and our customer liaison. We were finally allowed to re-enter the home and complete the work discussed and agreed upon on 11/9/18.
We were not paid as discussed and agreed upon, and the customer has since decided to report us to our Corporate office, and to the Revdex.com to pressure us into not seeking legal action against her to collect monies due to satisfy our contract or agreement.
It was never our intention for this situation to get this far away from resolution, but the customer has decided not to complete her end of the deal, so we must seek other means to collect and satisfy our contract.
As of 12/17/18, we are seeking our payments through the courts, and we feel as if we should not have to report more to the Revdex.com until the case and decision have been made.
Regards,
Scott M

Good evening! I have attempted to provide a clear picture regarding my unfortunate experience with California Closets. I have included a zip file of correspondence for your review, as well as the Revdex.com response from Scott M, which I strongly disagree with. Please see attached.

Please note the following:

I am no longer willing to discuss this matter with California Closets. Included in the emails you will see that I made numerous efforts to communicate with the management staff in the hope to come to an agreement, whether during a conference call or email correspondence. I offered to pay a portion of the remaining balance although I feel this company has put me through a horrific amount of disappointment and stress throughout this transaction. I look forward to the California Closet staff agreeing that my balance due at this time is zero, and this matter will be closed. All eight individuals that I have been in contact with lack efficiency, integrity and professionalism.

Please contact me with any questions, as I look forward to the conclusion of this most unfortunate incident as soon as possible, thank you!
